OK, so its 45 minutes before the start of your planned punt and suddenly your stomach is giving off noises as if you haven't eaten all day.
What's the ideal pre punt snack?
It needs to be:
Quick and easy to procure
Easy to eat and digest
Tasty
Not smelly or stick to teeth
Easy to eat with hands and unlikely to leave a mess

Probably seems a bit odd to some but I've spent years doing triathlons where you need quick energy, something that won't upset your stomach or have you wanting to go to the toilet half way through.  I've developed a routine which means no solid food less than 4 hours before the event, a gel about 20 mins before, and for longer punts (3 hrs or more) I bring another gel which I take at a convenient break usually about 2 hrs in.

If it a serious question I suggest some mixed nuts, not salted. No sugar rush, easy to keep in briefcase or car. I also carry something called ` 'Tepe' which is an interdental toothbrush, great to get the bits of nut or any other food out from between the teeth. Some bottled water to wash out the dry bits and keep you hydrated before the big event.

a big no-no would be anything with garlic.

If your stomach is rumbling I would usually buy a milkshake. Not too heavy, will calm the stomach and the sugar intake will help during the punt. No need to brush your teeth too, just pop some chewing gum afterwards.

I just rely on a healthy diet and don't eat for at least 2 hours before a punt, just drink water.  I don't need any other energy boost and I'm the wrong side of 50.

A banana usually works for me too. Nothing too heavy. Might have to check out the energy gels for longer sessions.
