Well well well, at races today, bumped into the ever Sooo sexy Sarah Jane of Allure. What a classy mammy she looked like and so did Alli the boss at Allure. Shame June weren't there too. She looked sooo good on my arm for a bit, me all tux'd up. Sarah Jane didn't look out of place, what a classy bird she is and so well spoken. Didn't even cost me a penny  :drinks::yahoo:

My business partners didn't bat an eye lid either... Would be my ideal candidate for a function if I got stuck for +1. One to remember lads.

Did you join up with them, or just say Hi and go off and do your separate things?

If so would be interesting to hear more how things went if you joined up. What you did together etc?

Joined them both for a drink in VIP area, got my photo took with them for memories on my phone  :D, and then parted back to my cronies.  The pair of them offered me a birthday offer I couldn't refuse... A VIP sandwich  :yahoo:

So much for discretion,  I thought the general consensus was to avoid each other in public places. Who approached who first?

I was going to go to the races but I was too bunged up.......pity.

I approached sj whilst we were both getting drinks, They saw me but didn't approach me. Discretion wasn't an issue, I didn't obviously use work name .Didn't feel uncomfortable at all for any party, like I've said before, SJ has an air of class about her so it didn't look dodgy if u know what I mean. First time for meeting Alli, nice to put a face to a name.

You must have bigger balls than me Tmm2, in that situation i would avoid any contact if i was with business partners. Whens your VIP sandwich?

I was thinking that too. Balls the size of boulders.

I seen a girl once in public who I really wanted to speak to and could not muster the courage to walk over there and do it.

The fact that you were with work colleagues and it was three of them all together. Seriously, massive envy of your cojones.

There's at least 2 lasses I currently socialise with as well as book, and have seen a few more socially no strings over the past year, seem to hit it off with some of the lasses. Networking was the whole reason I was there anyways.

In a one on one situation i would find it ok if it was ok with the girl, but never in a business setting with others around.

Sorry for this turning into possibly 20 questions. This will be the last question I ask. But can I ask, when you seen her. What exactly did you say to start off the conversation? i.e the very initial words.

Was it just a case of "Hi, remember me". Or "Hi, what are you doing here" or "Wow its great to see you again" or "Hi, I know you don't I". Or what?

I think the first line of the conversation is the dodgy one as in public you want to say "Hi" to the girl, but do it kind of pretending you do not know her as for all intents and purposes you do not know her as nobody around knows you booked her.

I know I could PM you to ask this, but I am guessing I cannot be the only one who has been in a similar situation to yours and balked and not done nothing. When it was a case of you did and it turned out more than ok for you.

In a one on one situation i would find it ok if it was ok with the girl, but never in a business setting with others around.

I am not going to go into any details, but that was kind of my situation. I still now in hindsight wish I just said "Hi".

I think themademan has it right, if you see someone you know it's only polite to say hello and with business partners there a friendly "hello, nice to see you here" is a lot less suspicious than turning swiftly away to avoid contact.

The problem is the girl will be asked by people around her - e.g her girlfriends, "Whose he and how do you know him". And if she is not good enough at coming up with stuff on the fly. It will cause her issues, awkwardness and embarrassment, annoyance and the like.

Like I have said in other topics. I do not care the situation or who I am with - even if I was with my 94 year old gran, or if I found a partner and was with her. If a girl I had booked walked up to me and said "hi how are you doing". I would not be embarrassed I would be pleased and say hi back. And if anyone around me asked who she was. I would say she was just someone I used to work with in a previous job.

Anth, I know he's said it a couple of times in this thread but Gothic D is spot on. You are way over thinking this or possibly over worrying. I'm quite a shy guy myself and it took me quite a while to drum up the courage for my first punt, Fortunately I picked the right one "Angel of the North" who put me right at ease. She is someone who would look great on my arm but I'd be petrified someone saw me and told the wife.
The simple fact that you have a specific girl in mind could be the answer to your dilemma. If she agrees to the social aspect of your encounter then simply ask her where she would like to go, that way you can't possibly pick the wrong venue.

Thanks for this John. But the problem is the girl I want to do this with is not from Newcastle. She is from down south (literally the opposite end of the country). And thus on asking her, I found she knows less about restaurants and bars in Newcastle than me - and I know next to nothing about them.

I saw a girl the other week walking towards me in the street but to be honest I wasn't 100% certain it was her so just walked on.
Turns out it was her as I later found  out whilst experiencing a "VIP Sandwich " of my own..although not the sort one could purchase from Greggs..and probably more expensive than the one MM2 was "offered" :D

Offline MagpieJohn

Ah now it all becomes clear if she doesn't know the area herself. Well the problem becomes clear but unfortunately not the answer as I'm not a social person myself. I would say however that Francesca seems to know what she's talking about.

If she's not from round here then she should see the real Newcastle so take her to the restaurant in TJ Hughes' store which affords a nice view of the Bigg Market..should be nice and cosy unless there's an OAP offer on that day.

Offline AnthG

I was really hoping there would be a general consensus of the best place in Newcastle for this and it would be repeated by multiple people. But it seems there is not.

So can I ask those who are not sick of my planning things the nth degree by now. If you had to chose one place to do a social booking out of these two, which would you pick

How taking a left of field approach.

Instead of a restaurant how about Paint Balling, Bungee Jumping, Paragliding etc

Plenty to talk about after that little lot.

As a ex wg I wouldn't have a problem with any clients who said Hi, I think I would be more upset if they didn't!
If any of my friends ask who you were I would just make some story up like its a neighbour or something, truthfully they shouldn't really ask!
Most of my ex clients have ended up as friends anyway so I might be different but in my opinion a simple Hi wouldn't be a problem, Stop stressing  :kissgirl:

And so we come back to Anth...have you got this date sorted yet?

I sent an email to the Herb Garden yesterday morning to ask last minute questions on setting this up as a private dining with them. And they have totally ignored me.

So to be honest, no and back to square one as that was a complete poor show on their behalf.

I hate restaurants in Newcastle.

You know if I ever won the lottery. I would use it to setup a restaurant in the manner that I seek as I know I would make a killing as no way am I the only person that would want a quiet dark place to go and chat that serves food where you can pick at and not a full course meal or a ruddy burger.

I am putting way too much thought into this than what possibly ever should be.

Can I please ask, if some kind soul could read through all the suggestions people have given in this topic of places and just second that suggestion. As it seems every different person has given a totally different suggestion (I was on starting the topic expecting a whole bunch of replies saying xxxx would be best. And not everyone saying something different).

It seems the only one that has been suggested more than once out of all the posts is The Forth on pink lane.

My worry is with this one, all they serve in terms of food is a choice of a burger, or steak. My problem is a burger I will look like a pig on eating it and make a fool of myself.

So can someone possibly either just third that suggestion of the Forth as the best place, or second a different one in this topic. And I am going to pick this whatever is seconded of thirded to just have a place.

I am annoyed like hell the Herb Garden ignored my email as they seemed like my perfect choice. Total unprofessional by them!

All I will say is I just want a place to chat for 2 hours and eat picky type food. Not a plate with a knife and fork and not a burger. And not a place that is noisy and packed so you cannot speak at all, or need to shout to each other

Why not try Tapas, La Tasca on the Quayside and you can book a table.

Hi Anth, if your looking for picky type food what about the Spanish Tapas bar 'La Tasca' on the Quayside? You can order a few dishes & then nibble on it as you have a drink/chat.

Thanks guys. This is exactly what I was hoping for - two people saying the same.

I was also PMed a suggestion of El Coto which was another Tapas restaurant. So am going to study both on tripadvisor and its one or the other now.

Good luck mate, after all the stressing I hope it all works out well for you.

Just to confuse matters further....a few places have started doing sharing boards where you get a few different dishes on a board for 2 people.
Tapas places are great but sometimes they have music blaring in the background and might not be as secluded as you want...also if there are a few parties in it gets quite loud
