yup - think he's needy for some attention...

Is this just an elaborate troll?

That thought had occurred to me, too.

Thanks for all the advices. I think I m going to have a word with the lad and leave it. Our company is a small office and there is no IT manager with no Internet filter system. The boss is a strict woman and I don't think the lad would have a good time if she found out. If there is any so called leverage I hope that the lad would not be so thick to people after this incident and then get back to work and PUNT AFRER!

I'm surprised it is not filtered. I can't get on eBay, Facebook or twitter on my work computer, all blocked.

Cant wait to read the "my manager spotted me" thread :D

A lot of companies do this to stop employees dossing about. Instead they doss about on their phones. I'm lucky as I have unrestricted internet access so spend most of the day on eBay, facebook, writing reviews and so on. I still doss about on my phone though, to check hotlists, UKP, new arrivals on AW etc. What with wank breaks, fag breaks, tea breaks and reading the paper, it keeps me fuckin' busy, I can tell you!

wtf's wrong with a bit of blackmail? It's very handy when getting what you want sometimes.  The trick is to be subtle about it. You can't ever come out and explicitly say it, but if he knows you know but haven't said anything, he will have at the back of his mind that you have some dirt on him.  You do need a reputation as an asshole to make it work though.

If he's a UKP user he's probably read this thread and is about to grass you up to the boss.

You've outed yourself Coolcat.

That's the best approach. I'd remind him what the boss's reaction would be if she found out, but that you're not going to say anything (with "...for now" being unsaid), and leave it at that. Make out that you're doing him a favour.  Hopefully he's bright enough to store it as a little nugget of fear in the back of his mind.

I was "browsing a prossie website and Coolcat  saw me but didn't say anything?"  I can't see that conversation happening, somehow.

Sounds like your staff are running all over ya !

On a serious note since we are not approaching this from a managerial position but a friendly related punter position I advise not to mention anything. He may think you're blackmailing him or may use it to blackmail you in the future.

Offline Teessider

How about 'Check on coolcat's phone - he's a prolific user of UKP'   :sarcastic:

Well, if he is a member he now knows to say he was simply checking what the site you always have on your phone is, as he was just diligently considering whether to report you.

Don't think so. The incident happened quite a long time ago and was very different from what I described although the thought process was very much the same.

Here's a page that might help:

A simpler answer if an employer wants to do so is simply to put a filter on all machines to block adult content. Simply cos with the crappiness of offering diluted by Romanian pro$$ies it takes up far too much of paid time sorting out a punt!

If so, it's a totally pointless thread  :dash:

So it happened quite a long time ago?

Not sure if it's off topic.

I work as an office manager and recently I found out that one of the staff members was browsing adultwork using his desktop. Stupid lad!  :dash: I saw it when  I was walking pass and he quickly turned off his screen. As a frequent user of adultwork myself (on my mobile only though) I immediately spotted it.   :hi:

What would you do under such circumstances? The lad using the machine was not particularly friendly to me (I am friendly to everyone in the office) and I don't want him know that I report him browsing adult website (our company has policy on the subject but never implemented!) but if I want to use it to my advantage, eg make him become less demanding on other work related issues what should I do?

Any suggestions or should I just leave it?

…then why did you say that this incident happened recently, and if it happened a long time ago, why are you asking what to do now?

Offline RedKettle

why have I just read this thread?  :dash: :dash:

As a manager myself, albeit in a different sector, I always just have a quiet word before shift and basically say if you stop fucking about I can turn a blind eye. This usually sorts things out amicably. At the end of the day you most probably have someone above you and if that chap gets caught pretty much looking at porn, the first question raised will be why you haven't you been monitoring internet usage?!
