You are not to be outdone Davie are you? What was the gradient/variance at Roker.
I haven't got that copy of "Shoot" magazine
Never had an interest in Roker Park, didn't even know there was a slope?  :unknown:

Newcastle have just spent £10m on a new pitch but the north to south slope is still there with the team preferring to play 'down the hill' in the second half.

Sawley - Ripon
Sawley - Clitheroe. (The latter should be twinned with Scunthorpe)

Many places names in West Yorkshire ending "ley", which means a clearing in woodland.

Several places names in Northumberland which are sufficiently similar to cause confusion.
Tritlington and Titlington.
Ellingham, Eglingham and Edlingham which, to confuse visitors even more, are pronounced with a "j" unlike the Ellinghams in Norfolk and Hampshire.
There is also a Bradford and and Bolton.
Warkworths near Morpeth and Auckland NZ

Slightly off topic perhaps but Puntland is the name of a travel agent in East London and an uninviting region of Somalia.

Take no notice of Google maps or postcodes mate, Warkworth's nearly 20 miles away from Morpeth.   :hi:

to be fair there isnt a lot of human habitation nearby - reminds me of the Yank whose hire car broke down in that area of Northumberland and reported to the AA that he was about 300 miles north of London

Got some nice coastal villages though, Amble, Cresswell  and the like we won't mention Lynemouth though, the eat their young there.  :D

Good point dm.I should have described Warkworth as being next to Amble. Mint places both.

Lynemouth makes Ashington seem welcoming and up - market.

Spent many Sunday afternoons  (65+ years ago) at Alnmouth where they allowed cars onto the Golf course links after the golfers had their morning and Craster to buy some fresh crabs

There are almost 30 other places around the world with "london" as their name too.  :)

Offline foreverchanges

There's a Toronto and Quebec in Co Durham and a New York in Tyne & Wear.

Offline Mr Garmin

This could go on forever, there can't be many places in the world that don't have a doppelganger somewhere else*.  The Brits in particular had a habit of naming places they conquered/discovered/colonised after towns and cities back home.

Probably much more difficult to find places with unique names

*Excluding Asia and the far east

When I went to Sydney, Australia, I went around by train.  They have a lot of places with the same name as London place names which I thought was amusing.  They got Hyde Park, Haymarket, Waterloo, Kings Cross, Lewisham, Greenwich to name a few. This was in the CBD area (Central Business District).

They also got a Newcastle somewhere

Londonderry is in North Yorkshire, between the A1 and RAF Leeming.

The AA lass asked what the problem was and he said the car was over heating.

The AA girl on the other end of the phone said “I didn’t ask ye where ya were pet”

You’d probably need to be a Geordie to know what am on aboot 😂

There's a Northumberland Park in Tottneham and one up in Tyneside  The one in London is by all accounts (TikTok, so it must be true) the worst estate in London for crime (it's not nice but you do get a decent percentage of Latina brothels there, plus the new Spurs ground) and from a quick look now the one in Geordieland isn't much better.

It was originally called Manna-hatta by the local indigenous people.  :hi:
