And we think we have royal problems!
In today’s
Sunday Times, Charlotte Ivers focuses on two members of the Norwegian royal family – the husband of Princess Martha Louise, sister of Haakon VIII, the new King of Norway, who is a black American by the name of Durek Verrett with very strange beliefs; and the King’s stepson, Marius Borg Høiby, a convicted rapist:
__________
Verreck claims — in the words of a Times report last week — “to be both a shaman and an alien with the true form of a reptile”. Fantastic. Admittedly, if I was picking one of the two as an in-law with whom to spend the rest of my Christmases, I’d pick the shaman over the jam-hawker. What glorious fun. But wait, what’s that? He wrote a book claiming that children bring cancer on themselves and says he foresaw 9/11 by two years (but chose not to intervene)? Oh. Never mind.
Poor old Haakon, to be cursed with such a mad brother-in-law. You don’t choose your family. That said, you do choose your wife. In the King’s case, he chose a wife who has a son from a previous relationship with a convicted drug dealer. Not the end of the world. Unfortunately, the son in question, now 29, was earlier this year convicted of rape and domestic violence. He is currently toddling round the royal estate in an ankle tag while he appeals against his convictions.__________
Just to be clear. The proximity of these two individuals to the King of Norway is exactly the same proximity as Princess Anne’s husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, and The Queen’s son, Tom Parker Bowles, have to King Charles III.
