Mate, you are now potentially undercover deep behind enemy lines.  A few things to consider:

Heh. I watched Smiley's People the other day as well

Doesn't she have her own log on?

I share the laptop with OH but we have separate profiles, mine is password protected and changed regularly. I always delete browsing history on exit but am looking to use another layer of security for browsing as suggested on here.

I also only punt in an area where I have a legitimate excuse to be, no matter how flimsy, at least I'm covered for the dreaded accident/breakdown/speeding ticket etc. I have a couple of hobbies that could involve fairly long journeys for a short stay at the destination. This does rather limit the available punts but is better for peace of mind.

No because normally she never uses it - it is mine and I don't share!!  However she wanted to look up something shopping related and could not be arsed to go get her own.  It would have created suspicion to refuse and (this was the point of that post on another thread) given the security measures taken after being on UKP I was confident that there was no problem.  I have the IT aspects well covered - but my security did not extend to me being a moron and printing an AW profile.

No but I have balls - which if she had found the printed AW profile would no longer be the case.

For those worried about people knowing about the punting has anyone had a narrow escape, other than the well documented apple and google related incidents?

Recently I was stupid and printed a girls AW profile to take with me.  I had not realised that it had not printed properly and after I had gone the printer decided to print a second copy.  The printer is at home and also used by OH.

I got home and OH asked, as I walked in, if I could get something off the printer that she had just printed.  Thinking she was being a lazy arse I never the less went and got it - and had the shock of my life when I saw the AW profile underneath her printing.

My luck was holding that day.

No, your luck didn't hold.

She saw it and is now torturing you slowly.

She'll decide to put the heel in at a time of her choosing.

If you spot her looking at you slyly or smiling maliciously then you'll know she's got you.

Offline dilettante

All you need is the girls number and its quite easy to code that, after all most are 07 and that can go, reverse the other digits somewhere in a way known only to you, and put a couple of letters in front so,

EM993529/045

Becomes a part number for a bit off  the motah;)..

Yes, but if it were, you'd expect it to come up on  Google, if she's clued-up/suspicious enough to try it?

A few years ago a paedophile was jailed after he accidentally printed out  :vomit: on his work printer - from his home PC, or certainly from home anyway.

It's a huge mistake to underestimate your wife.

If your wife knows how to use a computer then it's more then likely she's made her way to Mumsnet and there are literally hundreds of threads on there telling women how to track cheating husbands.

There's even help from WGs, (think of Paris).

Red Kettle's wife is playing a long game with him, and if she is, he's fucked.

And by his posting about it on here she has proof that he's done more than just print out profiles as well ....

Using a simple transposition or substitution cipher for any numbers written down will prevent them from being Googled.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transposition_cipher

Unless the person reading them is an amateur codebreaker of course :)

I think he meant Google the number for the 'car part' that doesn't exist.

Exactly, anything like that, model numbers etc, will come up in Google.  So if she got really inquisitive that wouldn't wash.

Fucking hell, we're all turning into amateur spies.   :)

I don't think I could cope with the cipher thing, I just knock off the 07 and reverse the digits, splitting it into 2 strings. I do keep half a dozen numbers stored in the punting phone at any one time and I find it hard to know what to store them as. I used to use just a letter but I couldn't remember who they were, then I started using blokes names and that was just as bad. I have a load of genuine numbers in there as well, the OH knows that this is my "back up" phone in case I can't get a signal on my smartphone.
A good idea is to store details on AW and use the notes field so you've always got it, even if the girl takes it off the profile.

I actually find that the secrecy thing is part of the excitement, being a big fan of John le Carre.

It's good to read other ideas about how to improve the security

Store in phone using first two letters from the town and three more letters from their nickname.

So Sammy in Luton is LUSME, Angel on Northampton is NOANG, Mandy in MK is MKMND.

LUSME would look more suspicious than Samantha in my contacts, OK Angel looks bad but just come up with another name. My main phone has loads of contacts that Mrs CBP wouldn't know and has never asked about, if she did it wouldn't be too difficult to come up with some plausible bullshit. It's not having a contact on the phone that bothers me so much as the prossie phoning or texting when I am at home. Even worse would be when on hands free in the car with Mrs CBP sat next to me  :scare:

The letters thing doesn't sound too bad to me. My OH knows I'm a bit of an oddball so anything like that wouldn't arouse suspicion at all.

As for prossie phoning you, don't you use a dedicated punting phone?

My punting phone is either off (most of the time), or on silent in my pocket if I'm expecting a txt. The only time it's in normal mode is when en route to a punt and am obviously alone.

Phone numbers are easy - just take the modulus x of each digit, where x is a value chosen by you.

For example, using x=3 you would add 3 to each digit, if the total is more than 10, take 10 away from it (a bit like spinning the numbered wheels on a lock)

so:

Escort's number    0 7 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Mod 3                  3 0 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 1 2

or if you want to keep it looking like a phone number just start from the 3rd digit:

Escort's number    0 7 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Mod 3                  0 7 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 1 2

The point about this scheme is that's it's easy to remember so you don't have to faff about splitting, combining, reversing etc. etc.

Of course if you're unlucky enough for the new number to belong to an escort as well, then the gods really hate you  :D

Yep, think I've got that - just!

Actually that's pretty good tbf.
I was concerned about the "carrying over" bit but just tried an example and it's easy to use.

To avoid the armageddon scenario you mention, then after putting the number into code you could then google the result. After all, the coded number might not be a prossie but could be something that might arouse suspicion in itself! Or am I overthinking?

Anyway must go and have a pre punt shower now.  :P

Yes, I'm a strong advocate of them. Almost got caught out once in the early days of arranging incalls and got a punting phone straight after that. It goes on when arranging things, gets charged up at work and stays hidden away and off when at home.

All well and good trying to get out of accidentally printing off AW profile you can always bullshit and say you printed it off for a mate etc but if you were logged in at the time you might struggle explaining that. I know it doesn't show your profile name but it does show if you are logged in or not.

I made mistake of not logging out once remembering an hour into a car journey and rapidly returning home before the Mrs made it back from work. NEVER again! check twice before leaving now

In that case there's probably only one solution and that's to abstain from punting for a very long time.  Not a great idea but better than a divorce??
