Author Topic: Using Whatsapp securely?  (Read 1414 times)

Offline Longshot

Im.coming accross more and more profiles requesting comms by whatsapp.

My punting phone is an old dumb handset so no access to any web based apps etc.  Is there a way to use my regular whatsapp securely without any chance of being linked to the other socials that are attached or even my name?

There are a number of previous threads on punting phones which can give you options , but imo, the safest option is to buy a cheap smart phone. You maybe able to use your existing punting sim but if not just get a new one!

I use hushed for my number and I was able to get onto whatsapp after waiting a week for it to timeout whatever request it originally sends, for a while I was panicking that I wouldn't be able to use whatsapp but eventually it worked.

If you have a Samsung, you can install Knox - which is like a phone within a phone protected by biometrics. Here you can have a second install of WhatsApp completely separate from your main one. In fact a second private install of any app.

1) get another number from an app like hushed.
2) get whatsapp business.  It is just like whatsapp, but it is a second account.  Join it with your hushed number.  No one on whatsapp can tell that it is not the normal app.
3) Now you have two whatsapp's.  One for punting, one for RL.  Only one phone.  So no playing Doctor Foster guy and hiding it in your boot.

That works but hushed eventually do recycle the numbers and you can suddenly find yourself booted out of your WhatsApp account. Small risk but it happened to me (though not with a Hushed number) so worth being aware of

Agree.  Keep paying for the hushed number.  Helpful sometimes to be able text to girls that don't use WhatsApp.  Punting ain't free.
