Private galleries costing nothing - cannot subscribe

I've seen a couple of profiles with PGs that have a subscription cost of 0.00. If I try to apply to this, I get the following message:

The following problem(s) were detected:

There was no valid member found with the supplied User ID or the requested price plan is no longer available.

The ones I've found are:

External Link/Members Only
External Link/Members Only

Anyone else found a way around this one? I've got AW credits, but them being shy about giving away freebies wouldn't surprise me in the least.

It's known about and been discussed before. I think it was Strawberry Ruth who first diagnosed it.
It's a bug in the AW system, tied in to when the new age restriction laws came into play and AW moved a lot of images into private galleries - but at zero charge. Obviously zero charge on a chargeable item doesn't work...
