Who knows whether or not this thread will take off? But I thought I would start it because I often read or her something wise or clever that is worth repeating; and others doubtless have instances too.
Among today's letters in the Sunday Times , John Richards of Bath – commenting on the report that an AI-run café ordered 22.5kg of tinned tomatoes to use in sandwiches because fresh ones went off too quickly – writes that his late uncle, a deputy headmaster, explained the difference between knowledge and wisdom as follows:
“Knowledge is knowing that tomatoes are fruit. Wisdom is not putting them in a fruit salad.”
It's the difference, if you like, between being clever and being intelligent. (Of course we'd all prefer to be thought intelligent. It's less hard work, for a start!)
