Argentina will be wearing their lucky blue " hand of god " kits tonight against England so this will mean England will be wearing their lucky General Belgrano version shirt.

I hope England fans don’t wear anything like that! That is not “banter “ -it’s down right disrespectful to the people who lost their lives and is also very likely to provoke a response! We don’t need any fighting or rioting!

Offline RandomGuy99

What are they going to do with the massive flags that have been created for each team?

Offline ratedj

Cucurella man of the match for me.

I think France walked onto the pitch simply thinking they would win. Without going about things to actually do that.
They looked very ordinary and they certainly have been anything but in the competition so far.

Now we just need the Argies to think along those same lines tomorrow. 😂

I very much doubt this, considering that Spain had beaten France in their last two competitive games. I did say that whoever beats France would be world champions, but hopefully I’m wrong. Much will be made about how bad France were but it’s not that they played badly, per se. Spain just suffocated them with their technical excellence, making France look ordinary. Spain are their kryptonite. No other team is capable of that type of performance against France.

As much as I hate Argentina, I think they have had a lot of Favouritism and shoudnt even be in the Semi finals. I even saw a video of Argentinian fans burning the England Flag...
But
I agree, Its best not to disrespect the dead

FIFA want their Golden boy in the final.  Argentina have no business being there.

Expecting every 50/50 decision to do their way.

Yes sadly it's true a lot of people did loose their lives in this conflict all due to an illegal invasion of British territory by Argentina but this is wandering into politics so I'll say no more.

So apparently there is going to be a half hour half time concert at the World cup final, great that's all we need, another nail in the coffin of football, not content with breaking the game up into quarters for American television we are going to have to sit through half an hour of dross before the second half begins

So many poor Argie tackles - watch what happens we will get booked for an innocuous one

well it wasnt exactly innocuous but was it really that much worse than a dozen previous by Simeone etal?

Offline Sunny

Argies will be doing everything now to get Anderson sent off. F*** joke how Enzo hasn't been booked.

England's One UP!

We were and that goal lit a fire under Argentinas arse and they finally started to play football rather that playing tripsy up the opposition to stop them playing.
Our defence did well for a sustained period but nobody can hold out against that kind of pressure for ever, we are lucky not to have been 4 down tbh

Tucal made a miscalculation and went for defence rather that attack

Havent seen the stats but Arg hit the post twice a couple of decent Pickford saves and several near misses while apart from the goal we never threatened and Martinez never made a save

Better team won.
First half was fucking awful.
England's game plan seemed to be go one up and park the bus.
Shades of Croatia 2018.

I rarely get upset about football these days, but feeling low after that. Very disappointing to have 5 at the back including a 6ft7 man and to concede to a short corner and ball to the back post. Seemed to me that Fernandes had 4 touches on the edge of the area before shooting too.

Better team won, at least we weren't screwed over by some dodgy decision. Just disappointed as felt we had a good chance to win it.

I watched at home so going to bed now. Have work calls all morning tomorrow, going to be fun. I reckon I'll be over it by lunchtime.

If anyone else feeling low right now, love you lots!

tuchel gifted Argentina the game. Who goes defensive with 30 minutes left in the game with all the quality players on his team. He really went into a 541 and thought Argentina wouldn't score with all those chances.

Offline KeenPunter

England haven't beaten a FUFA top 10 slat the World cup (or qualifying) since France in 1982.

Hopefully that's the grounding fact that helps.

If they would.nit have been seeded they would have been put out by any of the top 10 teams before the semis

It was just like watching England under Southgate, take a lead then spend the rest of the game trying to defend it , you just knew with all that pressure it would only be a matter of time before Argentina scored and they did.
I do feel that Spain has what it takes to beat them in the final though.

First half was fucking awful.

It reminded me of a Mark Lawrenson quote, reminiscing about the Merseyside derbies; "For the first half hour, we didn't need a ball..."

Offline toon972

Big mistake bringing Gordon off, him and Spence were playing well down the left and were our outlets. Then taking Rice off and playing Kane deeper invited Argentina to attack. Argentina scored and we had very little attacking option after that, you could see it happening.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Neither could Shearer, Rooney etc.
We matched Argentina in every department in the first half.
1 - 0 up......try for 2!
To think the team could sit back and invite Messi to create his magic for 25 minutes was unbelievable.
Rooney said the England players must have worried what was likely to happen when seeing those substitutions.
No winger, no outlet from defence, just more waves of attack from Argentina.
It wasn't a case of if they'd score, it was how many.
I felt really sorry for our two best attacking players - Bellingham and Kane who were completely deprived of any service or support.

Ps.....is anyone even slightly interested in the game for 3rd/4th place? What's the point. :unknown:
All the BBC pundits and commentators were rightly strongly critical of Tuchel's decisions.

Totally agree Phoenix, I was as I'm sure many of us were in total disbelief by it all.

I guess some people just take what they perceive to be the easy options, rather than take charge of situations and make bold decisions...

Offline ratedj

Essentially going to repeat much of what has already been said. That was on Tuchel. Every decision he made after England took the lead just provided Argentina with more momentum. The irony is that it was very Southgate-esque from a man revered for his tactical nous.

The game also highlighted a major concern that even Tuchel has failed to address. We still cannot control important games. Spain showed yesterday exactly how to control a game when leading 1-0.

Does anyone really care?
They should give a runout to players who haven't gotten many minutes up till now.
Do Kane, Belingham, Gordon or Anderson really want to risk an injury before a truncated off season ?
And that goes for France too.

Totally pointless 3rd place play off games ( or bronze medal game as Fifa has now called it ) nobody cares who finishes 3rd. Another thing I can never understand is why they don't play all quarter finals and both semi finals on the same day. Irrespective of who won the wednesday game Spain have an extra recovery day or training day to prepare for the final .

England absolutely shat the bed, all down to the manager.

If you are Bellingham or Harry Kane and you see your manager whipping Gordon off for a defender with 25 minutes of the game you must think what a fuckin cowardly change.  Shambles, England chucked it away, they beat themselves.

Bravest team won.

The gutting thing is that we just ran away. Once we scored, we started going backwards and the subs just made it worse. At the break, Tuchel has a chance to reinforce the gameplan that kept them out for nearly 70 minutes but decides to park the bus. We are all armchair managers but something like Rashford for Gordon would have sent a difference message. Feel sorry for Kane. That's his last shout at a World Cup I reckon.

Offline Jumping Jack Flash

I’d have taken Kane off and replaced him with a player who is more suited to holding the ball up such as Watkins. For a supposedly tactical genius Tuchel got the last 30 minutes completely wrong.

100% Tuchels fault.
At first, when I saw Spence and Rogers starting, I was very happy.
I was shouting at the tv when he subbed of Gordon for Konsa, that was a big risk. I then screamed at the TV when he put on Burns and Guehi, 6 defenders...
And sadly, we lost....

This is only the fraud Tuchels fault.. he needs to be fired.. get someone like Eddie Howe instead.

The other side of that, given that there were two team on the park, is that the England goal lit a fire under Argentina and their substitutions were highly impactful.  They were running you ragged in the last quarter.
