If it was affordable to most people in this country to have the treatment done here then people would have it done here. It is cause Turkey is much cheaper for cosmetic dentistry.

The news about the state of our dentists lays bare for all to see in today's news -

I looked at getting implants, to replace full dentures. In the UK I was quoted £25,000. As an engineer I know the work that goes into implants and they're not worth £25k. This is just another example of UK dentists ripping people off.

I could get the same work done in:-

France for £18,000
Italy for £18,000
Germany for £16,000
Poland for £10,000
Turkey for £6,000

Though Turkey is perhaps the lowest level of professionalism and has some truly horrific horror stories. Germany and Poland on the other hand have extremely good dentistry services.

That’s just not true though. Many celebrities go to Turkey for their cosmetic surgery, Turkey has some of the best surgeons in the world.
I had a friend who travelled to Germany for a hair transplant because he didn’t trust the clinics in Turkey.
After the hair transplant, he said the service and quality was amazing and said he was glad he chose Germany. When I researched the clinic, I found out it was a Turkish doctor that did his surgery which was amusing to me.

I’m doing the same research, although I only need two teeth replaced.  Also looking at UAE and India as options as they’re locations that I visit on business.

A friend got a good result for similar work in South Africa

I got my teeth done in turkey 18 months ago. No issues at all.
The clinic was impeccably clean, modern and highly professional. I don't see an issue with it myself.
A work colleague stated a family member had theirs done in Albania, again totally satisfied.

The issue is that veneers are costly to maintain over the years and your teeth are gone forever as they grind your teeth down to stumps to fit the veneers. People may not be able to afford to maintain them in their retirement.

Veneers are installed over existing teeth. Crowns involve the shaving (grinding down) of the teeth.
Implants, are all the teeth being extracted, implants being installed, titanium is normally used. These then require several months to settle in before the permanent teeth are installed, a temporary set is provided whilst the implants settle in.
Personally I had mine done because I wasn't satisfied with the service from my dentist here. Any issues and I will go back to Turkey.

You're right that they don't grind them down to stumps by they do remove 0.3 to 0.7 mm of the enamel on the teeth to make room for the veneers and that's permanently gone.

When I looked into it the cost was similar. In any case I'll need bone work to support the implants.

They've been talking about this for the last 20 years using stem cells and they're no closer to it. Maybe one day, but not in my lifetime.

I’ve done extensive research into what the cost would be if I went down the cosmetic surgery route.
No point just getting one thing done if it’s going to make any difference to my appearance.

Teeth, nose, hair etc.

Even then the clinic I opted for couldn’t guarantee anything.
Something along the lines of just being brilliant surgeons and dentists…….. not miracle workers. 🤷🏼😂

In your case, a brain transplant might be cheaper.

I'm visiting Istanbul for a 2nd hair transplant in May and while I'm there thought I'd have some work done on my teeth.

Nothing major just some repairs to enamel and clean up.

Anyone recommend a clinic from experience ?

Do you take finasteride to maintain it and do you get any side effects?
I had composite bonding on my front teeth because they were badly damaged. I had that done in this country for about£2.5k and I'm happy with how natural they look. It's still my natural tooth shape and the colour has the right opacity.

The only thing I used after was red light led cap . My first one was 1 year ago and I'm pleased with the result but the crown needs more attention and a bit through the front. Decided against Finasteride and the likes of due to potential side effects and it's true I'm unsure how much didn't take permanent hold so that's a convo I'll have with the surgeon.

General note; I'm looking for recommendations not headline scare stories, I'm well aware of pitfalls hence the enquiry   :drinks:

British dentists are right up there with vets as massive rip off merchants and for them to criticise other dentists is a bit rich.
I had both jaws done in Turkey for 5k probably would be 20-25k here had no problems at all,I know a lady that had the same in the UK and she has almost constant pain. There are shit dentists wherever you go although I wouldn't try Albania they are a bunch of cunts the lot of them.
If I was a bit younger I'd have a hair transplant in Turkey too but I'm not fussed really as I'm a handsome guy anyway but I know no end of young guys that go there and get it done for what is very little money.
I've a friend in his 50s who is in the media a lot and he had a transplant in Turkey (he could easily afforded one here)and it looks great.
If it makes you fell better why not.

unfortunately they know people would pay for it cause people care a lot about their teeth, more than the parts of them that they don't see.

What I don't understand is if you brake a bone in your leg or arm then the nhs will give you a xray for free and sort you out whereas if you brake your teeth then you would still have to pay for it even if you go to a nhs dentist. That don't make sense to me.  :unknown:
More so that a dentist can actually detect mouth cancer.

When it comes to your eyes also, you still have to pay.

NHS is not free at the point of use when it comes to your teeth and eyes it seems.  :unknown:

I’m interested in this too.
After a recent let down after visiting a clinic in Germany. Travelled all that way to find out they only did head hair transplants 🤷🏼 😂

It’s not something I’d be interested in but each to their own. Actually a not too close mate of mine has had this procedure done. He’s open about it which is fair enough and as I say. If it works for him and obviously the way he feels about himself then alls good.
But most of us who know him, can’t quite see why the need.
He’s an ugly fucker with that bald patch and having hair covering it doesn’t alter that fact one bit.  :D

I know someone who recently had 6 front teeth composite bonded and they said it was about £2K for the work but they also had to pay for other stuff like a mouthguard to wear overnight and they had teeth whitening too.

Final bill was about £2.5K so sounds right and they were concerned that they didn't want to look like Rylan as a result with a set of tombstones that Druids would use as a place of worship  :D The end result does look fairly natural

I'm wondering if some of these treatments that are more expensive are being pushed when cheaper alternatives could be an option, if this guy had told me he'd been to Turkey and paid £5K as it was £10K in the UK i'd have believed him

Dentistry was only free at the point of use for a few short years from introduction of the NHS in 1948.

The backlog of dental disease meant that a 'tsunami' of patients flooded dental surgeries for dental clearances of all their teeth and replacement with full dentures. This huge demand was greater than foreseen and so charges were introduced in 1952 to offset the cost to the public purse.

Charges were also introduced in 1952 for opticians and for prescriptions. Devolved nations have more recently removed charges.

In fact the legislation was updated in 1949 to allow charges to be introduced in the NHS and the principle of 'free NHS' was very short lived.

My understanding is that the 1949 legislation would allow charges to be introduced for medical care, but so far the political will to do so has not arisen.

Of course demand and costs of the whole NHS was to become an issue for many decades onwards.

Yeah there might be less extreme options that look as good or better.
I could have had veneers instead, but was more money and they aren't forever, you need them replaced in around ten to 15 years from what I understand. You need to have repairs etc with composite too, but it's still cheaper I think and the opacity looks a bit more natural

The bad press from Turkey comes from people who decided to cheap out even further and rather than go to a well reviewed practice pick some sketchy untested place.

Offline FiveKnuckles

Just wanted to give a big shout out to badsin for giving me advice on turkey teeth.

Long story incoming:
Mentally i know my smile is not great and I haven't been to a dentist in donkey years.  I dropped a DM to badsin for advice as I don't know anyone personally that had their teeth done in turkey.  There's a lot of bad press, but there's also people that had success, like badsin.  I was very keen at this point.

Emailed 12 different clinics in Antalya, Izmir, Istanbul.  Most of these are Top-10 clinics from a redditors list and have excellent reviews online.    Specifically I needed implant(s) and wanted 24 Zirconium crowns.  Prices from the responding clinics ranged from £4,000 to £8,500.   *I didn't want all-in-4 or 6 since I wanted feedback on my teeth.

For those that are looking for Turkey teeth, DO YOUR RESEARCH!!  Some companies do cut corners with their practices.

- One clinic suggested 7 days on first visit.  Perform implants and fit most of the zirconia crowns. 3-6 months later, I return for a few day to fit the remaining crowns once the implant has set.
When I asked a 2nd clinic why they couldn't do the same, they said that when you extract a tooth and implant, your jaw is actively moving during repair (to accept the implant) and all other teeth may move.  If you insert the final crowns so early, you may not get the perfect finish at the end of the 2nd visit.  Also consider a small colour variation in batches of zirconia.

- Clinics quoting £4,000 and £4,800.  Pretty much scrubbed these from the list.  Going cheap and I can imagine they load up with more work when you arrive.

I had my heart set on the company charging £5,200.   I buy my air ticket and they pick-up and arrange hotels.  Basically everything priced in for the treatment and since the final ticket was >£5k the hotel and transport is included.  Else its £50 a night for the room and £50 for transport.

Read every review (1 bad and all others 4 or 5 stars).  Followed their Instagram and even followed the Dr that makes the zirconia crowns.

Got in touch with their client on instagram and asked him some questions.  Overall he was very happy with the work.  He has one small issue he will return to fix.  He even had 2 mates that used the same company and all happy.
He did say 2 things:
1) He says "try to get each tooth crowned separately".  I already know the reasoning.  But just so you understand, when you crown each tooth individually, if there is every a issue with root or decay the dentist works on a single tooth.
Sometime the dentist will group 3-4 teeth together to spread the load when biting down.  Many will just splint/bridge 4 teeth for visual effects, its quicker and more cost effective.   They kick-the-can down the road and its a nightmare for UK dentist to sort or you fly out to turkey and hope the company still exist.
2) He said "The teeth look more fantastic, than practical".  I guess he means the teeth looks great but his 'bite' is not naturally his own.  When I look at his instagram pics, his mouth actually looks fuller so it appears his teeth may be too large.   Horses for courses.
Basically you got to plan your look 100% in 7 days, or you can get bigger/smaller teeth.

Anyways.  I had conversations with family and they were more concerned about negative effects of the injections, and why I'm considering grind my teeth into stump to fit crowns.  Also future maintenance.  Didn't get much support  :(

Searched skyscanner for tickets and sat 2 days deciding on pulling the trigger for a £240 ticket.

Woke up and thought.  Do I really want to grind down every tooth when many look fine!?
I spoke on the phone with the clinic.  He actually said, that they're an 'ethical clinic' and will only perform the actions I wanted.  If I wanted just extractions and implants+crown, they would perform that as a regular dental clinic.  They would also only crown teeth that I wanted and no pressure to walk off with the perfect smile.

Booked myself an appointment with an NHS dentist.  Within 2 mins, she tells me my teeth don't even look that bad.  Does the examination and the overall results wasn't as bad as I thought.   Composite bonding and a longer term treatment plan in place.

Basically guys, this turkey teeth isn't for everyone.  It's about timing and condition of your teeth.  My natural teeth can be fixed up.  It won't be newsreader quality.   If my dentist told me the teeth are 60-90% trash, I'd book the plan ticket straight away.

I was very honest with my dentist on flying out to turkey for teeth.  She said DO NOT go abroad to crown your teeth as your NHS dentist won't service those crowns.  It's private work or you fly back to turkey.

It will vary between dental practices in the UK; my NHS dentist said she would still work on teeth that haven't been touched by a foreign dentist.
If the foreign dentist gave you an incorrect bite and your crowns wear down your natural teeth rapidly, you will sit in a grey area.

Come back with a full mouth restoration, you won't get any NHS support.  They would probably give you emergency care should you have root issue or decay by removing the crown(s).

Any private healthcare plans, check the smallprint for conditions
