According to today’s Times, the Pembroke, a “super” members’ club soon to be opened in Belgravia, this month took out a half-page advertisement in Country Life for a “butter sommelier” whose role will be to “curate our butter assortment and assist in training staff using our silver butter trolley”.
The individual will be required to possess a “deep love for, and understanding of, butter”.
Even Sarah Ferguson, the erstwhile Duchess of York, never had a butter sommelier, although apparently at one time she had 17 staff, including a dog walker and a flower arranger.
Meanwhile, on HMS Punter, we’ve had butter sommelier for years. As well as a margarine sommelier, who “curates” the margarine provision for those on the lower decks.
