I have a friend who went for a haircut in Burnley market; cost £8.

A family member went to Barrowford, 6 miles from Burnley, cost £25 !

Both dry cuts, no washing involved.

I do my own, I'm a bit of a baldy 

Anyone here pay more than £25 ?    Or less than £8 ?

For £70 you could get a SBAS, FBSM & HJ.

Like many areas, there's been a rash of flashy new barbers shops opened up round here. I'd read that many are a front for money laundering ( cash businesses etc).

Anyway, I tried one back in  November and had a decent cut , beard , eyebrow and nose hair trim for £12.

Went back again yesterday, same routine, but was surprised when he said he preferred card payments rather than cash ,( which rather gives the lie to the money laundering idea)

It sounds like they are looking for a balance between cash payment, which they pocket, and card payment, that they declare, to make it all look less suspicious.

My suburb of Leeds used to manage quite well on two barbers.  Now they are joined by 12 Turkish barbers, bright and lavishly appointed, but usually empty most of the time with the "barbers" sat outside smoking or on the phone.
Therefore, given the laws of supply and demand (haircuts, not what's under the counter) a trim should be about £2.

My local barbers in London charges £12 for a number 2 crop. I only need to go 2 or 3 times a year these days though. He does my ears, nose and eyebrows too for good measure.
On a separate note, perhaps it's a sign of getting old but it's been a long time since a barber has asked me if I wanted "something for the weekend?", or "anything else?"....

Is it not just that buying condoms from a barber is a historical anachronism rooted in a time when they were not stacked on supermarket shelves and the leading alternative was a vending machine in the pub bathroom. I don’t think I’ve ever been asked this by a barber. By the time I left school student health was giving them away and Virgin records was selling Mates at the till.

It’s amusing to me when people just label these immigrant business owners as “money launderers” or “tax avoiders” because theyre unable to compete with their work ethic/creativity/risk tolerance etc.

 Anyway business is extremely  cut throat, you make money by taking business of your competitor until they liquidate themselves -  so bending the rules is something you have to do.

If I went to my local barber I would pay £18. I get my hair cut roughly every 6 weeks or so and I prefer to get pampered at a salon so happy to pay the extra that the experience costs.

I'm 60. I get a number 4 all over. It doesn't require a lot of skill. That said, the Turkish guys do a good job, including eyebrows and nose hair.

I know there are plenty of suspicions about Turkish barbers, but the one near me charges £17 for a dry haircut and I must say the quality is much better than any British barber I've ever been to. It's clear the Turkish guy is more highly trained. The shop is smart, clean and well fitted out, the service includes ears and eyebrows trimmed, lotions and potions, a hot towel, he cuts my hair really well and then uses a razor to tidy up the edges. All in all, excellent service.

For me to return to a British barber, they would really need to raise their game. Turkish barbers all the way for me.

Sadly not, many other small suburbs have an absurdly high number of these places.  I'm even finding them in decent small towns well away from the conurbations now.  Nobody in their right mind can still believe they're legit?  (Apart from the police and local authorities apparently).

there is off course an automatic assumption that they have use the other barber when they could have gone somewhere else - why give business to the direct competition. But if the scenario is a you depict then yes go to the barber with the bad cut a she would have done the good cut

Be been running the clippers over my head for years. Not shaved head but very close.
Came with getting a bit thin on top and as I’m not a fan of the comb over 😂.  I thought why not.

Then my daughter in law told me to grow it just for a laugh.
Bloody hell. Apparently I’ve still got hair on top 😂

But I’m a bit of an expert with the old shears so give myself a short back and sides every couple of weeks.
Nothing to it. Besides I’ve got two daughter in laws who can tidy anything if I cock it up.
