Its all a load of bollix it wont take underage people 5 miniites to get around all this ! It might be done with good intent but it's very poorly enacted.

Mate of mine has a teen boy who hacks what he likes and where he likes..
The VPN providers could also be pressured to stop routing traffic to porn sites.

Your mate's son probably won't fare very well against the big porn sites as they invest in security to protect their sites and content.

Not going to happen… the people who have planned this are clueless tbh.. it will just drive the young people to delve deeper into the unregulated dark web..
Poor targeting rather than educating people to the dangers.
Countries where VPNs are illegal:

North Korea
Belarus
Iraq
Turkmenistan

VPN use is restricted

China
Iran
Russia
Oman
UAE

Some news threads on google into the age verification to protect kids from viewing adult porn, is now drawing attention to VPN

VPN is not going down well with authorities,

the authorities must be brain dead if they didn't foresee that this was going to happen. A complete waste of tax payers moneys and legislators time.

My husband has FINALLY chosen today to invest in a decent VPN! 😉

Brilliant

Exactly,  if a techno numpty like me can download a free VPN app that's going to allow you access to a porn site then your average 14 year old is also going to be able to do it. This law was bought in with good intentions but it's just not going to work.

That's what you think, I don't know how old your son is but if he's old enough to participate in our favourite hobby then he might have had more punts than you have. Hell he might even be a member of this forum and read your reviews  :D

The tax payers didn't pay for it. All the websites have had to make changes at the cost of £Ms and they all said it wasn't going to stop people accessing porn. However, it may help protect under 12 yrs from porn. We do need to try to protect the childhoods of our children, so that they're not exposed to porn at a really early age. We didn't have these concerns in the past when the internet and social media didn't exist. In my day it was keeping the porn mags up high, but even then it was just a matter of finding a newsagent who was happy selling to younger looking people.

The legislators had to be paid and by who else but the taxpayers ?

They're getting paid anyway to process any laws. They're not working overtime on it.

they are getting paid to introduce laws that are a complete waste of time ... do you not think there are better things they could be doing? Hence, a waste of taxpayer's money

It's not costing you any extra though. I think the industry told them it was a waste of time and they didn't listen.

I am sure we will have paid for quite a few 'consultants' (either rubbish or ignored), industry expert expenses and similar unnecessary expenditure to get this poor piece of legislation through.

I see this is yet another thread that has gone from the original topic to politics.   :dash:  (Unless someone can explain how who gets paid to introduce laws has anything to do with this thread.)   :unknown:

A reminder of the actual subject being discussed. -

This includes me ⬇️, abso-f*****g-lutely

I can't imagine that i'm in a club of one

A couple of threads AW big changes & age verification

VPN intel dotted around here & there

Thought i'd start a new thread just on which VPNs best to use, so current u-t-d

I like to think that i contribute on here, especially on R&T action

Hence VPN intel would be very much appreciated [free ones best paid for etc]

Access to IXXX & melonstube [me liking big chebs ?] now a non starter

TIA, Webby

Some people forget political posts anywhere other than the dedicated political thread comes with a ban.

I have installed a VPN. My full acess to AW is now restored, thanks. But i am blocked from UKP when using the VPN.  Does it depend on the country I am using on the VPN?

Edit: OK to access ukp from Netherlands but blocked if accessing from Japan

assuming AW still needs you to age verify, no?

I'm using free Proton, usually connects via the Netherlands, and haven't experienced any significant drop off.

It depends on the time of day. If it's during the day in that country then it might be slower as all the people in that country might be using it too. Try switching to a country where most people are asleep and see if it goes faster.

I looked at Proton VPN & the free product shows medium speed 5 servers
Gave them a swerve
If you search best UK VPN there is one provider which consistently comes out tops
If speed problems primarily this will relate to your wifi & maybe your PC / laptop
It appears that ExpressVPN is rated for speed 7% speed loss
I did a speed check with VPN off & on hardly any difference & as most wifi is so fast any drop off should be hardly noticeable
Ditch the free product & dont be a tight arse [< two quid a month over a year = 1 * OWO]  ;)
& get shot of the ZX Spectrum

I've just done a speed test with the free Proton VPN on and off.

Latency/ping very much worse with VPN on .

Download speed - and this surprised me - over 35% faster with the VPN on

Upload speed very similar ( about 1mbps slower).

This was connected to a US server.

Seems speeds can be very variable with VPNs, depending on server load and location.
Mostly better with paid (I'm with mullvad)

If you see an improvement in download speed, it probably means your ISP deprioritises downloads. With the VPN on, the ISP only sees a bunch of encrypted packets.

Two benefits of a VPN that i've just clocked being an edging tech expert

1/ set your location back to the UK to watch stuff like bbc iplayer when on holiday
Otherwise you are blocked
It's good to watch bbc news to see whats happening back in the uk & further afield
Another benefit is that you can also check if any more bbc employees have been charged with sexual misconduct [there could be another one  :unknown:;)

2/ set your location abroad somewhere so you can watch your fave footy teams matchday coverage
Streamed around the world apart from here
Tho i feel for @mr.b coz i'm assuming Cov TV having one camera up high in the stands

You also used to be able to use them to watch the US version of Netflix and other streaming services which often have different movies and series available.

As an added bonus Nord includes a dark web monitor showing data leaks potential issues
Only just noticed this
On my main email registered with Nord - no point using whichever anonymous punting etc email address obvs
Data leaks everywhere not just the likes of M&S + Co-op

I'm getting the impression that a pukka paid for VPN adds a layer to anti-virus
Note my scooby tech abilities am on a learning curve tho having both is unlikely to do any harm

I've also been using the free version of proton vpn for a few days now and touch wood seems to be working fine so far

having said i was having no issues ... recently it seems keen to connect to a server in the states, where they seem to have the same age verification requirements as the uk - have to keep re-connecting till it finally does the (in)decent thing and connects to the netherlands .

When age verification came into place, there was a high demand for the use of VPN, to by pass the verification process.  This hasn't gone unnoticed, and it looks likely now action maybe taken, but not now but in the future, to resolve this, and just guessing some sort of ban on VPN

So the Children's commissioner for England has suggested, the loophole that allows under 18 to use VPN to view porn needs to be closed

Have a look at the other thread
Might i suggest that you let this rest
Two reasons:
1/ your continued presence on here &
2/ this thread remains well away from politics

@DM posted a link on the footy thread re MSN
My VPN was temporarily switched off & blocked
Can read the article its good to go with the VPN

Listening to Talk Sport over the past few days Nord VPL have been banging the ads
They know they are onto a good thing
Transformed their year in the UK
& they didnt have to do anything themselves re marketing, re-f*****g-result

Edit:  they will have known the uplift in sales was coming
& made sure that their systems are able to cope with the increase in purchases so not overloaded
Quite the level of upturn i doubt that they could have imagined

Currently use Avast anti virus package with VPN got it on sale on at Groupon. Pretty straight forward to use and doesn't really affect my internet speed. Still get blurred pics from AW and Viva but it does work on most of the adult sites I have tested.

Use iVPN or Mullvad VPN - both open source. Mullvad is better as it's located in Sweden who are anal about privacy (a court judged in users' favour yay!). Don't forget this doesn't make you anoymous due to other techniques like fingerprinting etc.

You are the product. Your data is  being sold and you're more likely being tracked. They'll know who you are from fingerprinting your machine.

Yes I have this down loaded on my phone. The only problem is you have to temporarily disconnect it if you are doing any online purchases as it is connected to a Netherlands server you will be quoted Euros instead of £ sterling  as it thinks you are based in the Netherlands apart from that it's fine.

The same on my laptop when searching up massage burd postcodes for directions etc
It goes pear shaped when my location is showing as Norway

Logging on to Awank my location would show as Norway too when doing a search etc
Tho for some reason recently it defaults to the UK
