I never had the cash and time to go clubbing when I was a student and after getting married early, it was not relevant.
The only time was the odd weekday I was on my own and went to a Leicester strip club and that was very interesting. Never went again, a bucket list item. Not good value for money.

Not just the clubs closing but a hell of a lot of pubs too. If you don't serve food then a lot of pubs are struggling to survive. 

More profit in food. The landlord of a former local of mine said if he put a penny on the price of a pint, he'd lose custom, but he could get away with almost anything on food - a 300% mark up was considered average at the time.

With the new government recent direct and indirect taxes, a pint will now cost £5.00. When I was at Uni back in 1976 it was 90p a pint.

I wonder how much a pint of beer is in a club? Soho of course is a crazy place.

Standard keg beer was around 20 to 25 pence per pint in the mid '70s IIRC.

About right as it was about 70p a pint when I first started drinking, mid-eighties.

Simon, in my students union in the mid '70's my mate would have 9 pints of mild and have change from a quid. Eleven pence a pint. Bitter was 13p, as I recall.

That is incredible. I would try and save for maybe 1 or 2 pints before last orders. It’s all relative as I had less money in my pocket as a student. Paying for escorts was not even in my imagination. Still it is much more than 500p for a pint now.

I was at university in 2001 and fondy remember "pound a pint night" on selected cheap lagers, which IIRC was about a 50% discount on the usual cost.

Nowadays, my ritual post-punt pint and pack of salt and vinegar rarely gets change from £10 in most London pubs.

Was never really a pub goer so can't speak to that. I did try night clubs as a student but found them off-putting. When I tried going to one in recent years to talk to women they wouldn't even let me in unless I had an entourage, all that was left were strip clubs. It's just one of societies ways of penalising lonely men. Personally, I say fuck 'em.
