There is talk of making the Monaco grand prix a compulsory 2 stop race to try and make it more interesting as it's usually a race with very little overtaking in it. A compulsory 2 stop would shake the race order up a bit.

I don't know if anyone watched the F1 75 live launch event in London at the O2 arena where each team launched their new cars and driver line up. When Red Bull were introduced to the crowd team principal Christian Horner and Crash Verstappen were loudly booed. 
His old man Jos Verstappen said he was disappointed with the crowds reaction and didn't think it was acceptable .
I imagine a warm reception awaits them both at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix in July.

Yep I watched it and it was very audible ... I actually think Horner looked quite uncomfortable when he was talking over the booing. I'd like to see Williams advance up the pack a bit this year .. and for Lando to be better off the line, and Lewis to fight for 8.

I would love to watch F1 again, its been a while, but when I try to find out how much it is on sky to watch LIVE, it says I need another Sky package first then I can upgrade.

Therein lies the problem, I wouldn't watch anything else on Sky, so it makes it difficult, I know I am dumb, but not dumb enough to pay for channels I know I won't ever watch.

I can't even subscribe directly through the FIA website, due to being in the UK and SKY having the deal for a few more years. (I dont understand VPN's, nor do I really want to learn)

Channel 4 always show the highlights (not the same, but still an option). I believe Channel 4 actually show all of Silverstone including FP1, 2, 3 and quali.

Just watched some of the testing with the teams running the new cars from Bahrain.  The Mclaren car taking to the track half covered in green dye so the airflow effect can be seen on the car. Well that's a new one on me, never heard of that before.

WTF is the weird spiders web looking metal or whatever the material is that's been on some of the cars, just looks mega weird, presumably it's got sensors etc in it gathering data on aerodynamics or something

Yes, they are called aero rakes.

Both are designed to map airflow/pressure and see if the real world agree with computer simulations and wind tunnel

For example wind tunnel tests used to be done with 150mph wind and a stationary car but now the car is on a real rolling road like a treadmill to get closer to the real world

I would love to watch F1 again, its been a while, but when I try to find out how much it is on sky to watch LIVE, it says I need another Sky package first then I can upgrade.

I always watch channel 4 as I like the presenters and commentators. You couldn't pay me to watch sky, David "something is always more exciting if I shout really loudly" crofty croft. He can do one and all the ex racing drivers banging on about "back in my day...." I'm good thanks sky, hard pass.

So Red Bull have started their whinging already before the season has started.  They have already questioned the legality of the rear wings of the Ferrari and McLaren during recent testing in Bahrain.  No doubt the first of many complaints to come from whinger Horner.

Just seen the Quali results, GO LANDO has pole as McLaren close out the front row with the Brat sitting 3rd so poised to take the lead if Lando hasn't practiced those starts.

Good to see George Russell in 4th way ahead of his team mate in 16th, not sure if there was a specific issue there 

Hamilton down in 8th and out qualified by LeClerc in 7th, Ferrari can't be happy with 7th and 8th but a big shout out for Yuki Tsunoda and Alexander Albon qualifying 5th and 6th in the RB and Williams, the other Williams of Carlos Sainz Jnr was 10th, good to see progress from a team with such history getting back up the grid after being at the back for so many years

Lando has to improve his starts this year, the number of times he was on the front row but was passed by others by the first bend was insane. Despite people saying the Red Bull won't be as fast this year will be disappointed as Max brat still manages 3rd on the grid. Hamilton will take a few races to get to grips with the Ferrari. I saw an interview with him. He was asked how it compares to the Mercedes,   "different" he said.
" Different better or different worse" he was asked, " just different " he replied " I just need to modify my driving style to suit it" once he has he will be at the front end of the grid.
Williams could be the surprise team this year which would be great considering their past history.

They did, new season same Prancing Donkeys on the pit wall .. great drive from Lando, very calm under pressure at the end and in difficult conditions. Early days still but hopefully he's set the tone for the rest of the season.

Agreed - it was a brave or foolish decision to stay out on slicks but it was a stupid one to keep both cars out.
Surely in such circumstances if you want to take a risky choice then you split strategies and bring one car in ?

Hopefully Hamilton will bring some common sense to the table .. he'll get pissed off pretty quickly if the pit wall bungles cost him points/podiums.

The changeable weather conditions certainly made for an interesting race. A lot of Rookie drivers on the grid this year too will make the season interesting.  Good to see Lando holding off the Max brat right to the end. Red Bull look like they are back in the mix and good to see another Brit in George Russell on the podium.

As much as I would love to see Hamilton win his eighth world title I can't see it happening at Ferrari this year so I would settle for a British 1, 2, 3

Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali met with the prime minister of Thailand to discuss plans for a street-circuit grand prix in Bangkok.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said the government would commission a "feasibility study" into the possibility of a race in the capital from 2028.

There is an existing track in Buriram, in north-east Thailand, which is accredited by the FIA, the governing body for world motorsport.

Domenicali described the plans as "impressive".

Paetongtarn said: "I believe that all Thai people will benefit from organising this event, whether it is large-scale infrastructure investment, job creation, new income generation, and importing new technologies and innovations."

I know it has been mentioned in the obituary thread but sad to hear that former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan has passed away away aged 76. A unique man in F1 racing who was liked by all. His team took on the big boys in F1 and often beat them and always had the coolest looking cars on the grid.

Hamilton converts Sprint pole into a win and Max drops a place to 3rd

I guess the dust is still settling and things falling into place for this season but i'm encouraged that no single driver or team appears to be clearly out front and hopefully there will be a few in the mix vying to not just win individual races but the titles

Hamilton gets sprint pole and the win but then qualifies 5th for the main race
Oscar Piastri has been fairly consistent over the weekend, 3rd for sprint Quali, 2nd in the sprint race and on pole for the main race

I can't imagine Liam Lawson lasting the season at Red Bull. Poor performances by Perez last season cost Red Bull the constructors title . With Max Brat at the front end collecting points the pressure will be on Lawson to back him up.

As for lasting the season i can see this coming to a close much sooner than that

Its common knowledge that the RB is set up for Max who likes the set up with a sharp front end on it
Making it as quick as is possible a challenge to handle this on the edge all the time which he is able to do
They will be able to soften this for the 2nd driver but only so much, Perez the most recent to evidence this
Its fractions of seconds around the track & these add up

In quali on limited fuel & the fastest tyres the differential between drivers on a flat out lap becomes more evident
In an hour & a half racecraft dealing with other drivers comes to the fore

It didnt help Lawson that Hadjar in the sister car came 7th in quali
Tsunoda was half a second back from Hadjar, which is an age
A good reliable performance by Tsunoda & also good for sponsors fans in the far east 
If Lawson doesnt get his act together sharpish & if Hadjar excels in the race tomorrow & future quali / races IMO it wont take long for Karen to put Hadjar in a RB for testing
See if he can cope with the car
Lawson will find out about this well before it even happens denting his confidence

Karen will know that MV's dominance isnt going to happen this season & RB need a 2nd driver clocking up the points
Otherwise the constructors title & the riches prestige it brings will rapidly become a no hoper 

MV will want a wing man of sorts [even for him] its better to have one so will be applying pressure too
RB are up against known quantities @ McLaren, Lewis is a shoe in @ Ferrari and Antonelli is showing promise @ Mercedes
If Hadjar's performances continue with Lawson at the back i can see Karen pressing the button
And soon
Saudi Arabia is a very fast track & i reck by then soon thereafter there could be a driver swap

A lot of people are giving Pirelli shit but I'd say its an FIA issue because regardless of the tyre manufacturer it will lead to the same thing. Tyre management. FIA just needs to make 2 stop mandatory every race or even 3 stop depending on certain tracks. That negates tyre management and we can see drivers actually push the car to the limit. Plus we will get a lot more surprises like that through unexpected yellow flags or safety cars brining cars from the midfield further up.

65 seconds behind MV - thats over a second a lap
Lawson only finished 12th because of the three drivers disqualified & Alonso retiring early doors
& two secs behind Hadjar in a slower car 
Just as well for Lawson that Hadjar didn't build on his quali speed
