On that note I notice this with regard to AW. Currently voluntary but presumably compulsory before July.

I see AW have me down as already verified. I've never been through any kind of checks with them so maybe it's somekind of "grandfather rights"? Or else they've managed to work out how long my e-mail address on there has been in service (around 30 years)

This is purely speculation on my part, but I suspect it is some kind of 'grandfather rights' in that they have deemed that anyone who has maintained an active account for a specific number of years, must by nature of 'the passage of time' be over 18. For example if your account is 10 years old you would have had to have opened it when you were seven to be still under 18. That is unlikely.

Probably a good idea as it does normalise violent behaviour towards women

BBC News - Ban misogynistic online porn, review to say

disagree that it should be banned. By that logic every horror film that diplicts a seriel killer should also be banned as it is normalising violence?  :unknown: :dash:

Also by the same logic maybe we should ban tv soaps as there are known to do murder storylines and cheating storylines which promote the bad aspects of humanity?

My belief is you cant ban everything and anything just because some people cant control themselves.  :hi:

This country wants to ban fast food adverts before a certain time on the telly, we also want to ban gambling sponsoring football teams such as football shirt sponsors.
It is getting ridiculous. If we carry on like this the only thing we would be able to do free is to leave our house to get some fresh air.

I know the porn stuff the link is referring to, I myself avoid that content as too much of that gives me erection problems. The porn they are referring to does not feel or make me want to be violent towards another person let alone a women.

I, myself enjoy soft porn content. But that doesn't mean to say those people who like and enjoy watching hard porn content would in any way be detrimental to society.

but sadly children as being exposed to such porn at a young age and they are viewing such violent acts as "normal" and then attempting them with girlfriends which is leaving the young women traumatised. I know I have visited escorts who have mentioned that SSs have turned up and tried to choke them during sex. It must be pretty scary to have some random man turn up and start choking you without any warning and you don't know if you're going to survive this. I think it is best to ban it. The same goes for all this pseudo-incest stuff with step-brothers and step-sisters having sex. When did any of this become normal?

you cant ban that type of porn because kids are viewing them when they shouldnt be anyway. Shall we ban alcohol because some kids are able to get their hands of them?

If we ban things because a certain person is doing them when they shouldn't be then what is the point of any laws before now.
if you (like me) wants to stop kids viewing these stuff online than ban the intenet for under 18s is one option (by the way i still disagree with that but that in the most part is a better law).

I am in favour of making the parents pay a penalty whether that is a fine, slap on the wrist for first offence or a prison sentence if they cant stop their kids from viewing these stuff.

We banned guns because a small number of people killed people with then.

Porn is very hard to control, so we should try to eliminate this violent variety.

Only way that can work is to home school the kids from 4 to 24, never let them out unattended or mix with other kids as kids will be kids and show other kids porn and stuff. They'll probably end up worse adjusted than kids who mix with kids and hopefully get some teacher supervision during the day, the majority ending up OK.
I consider my self, a punter, sex addict as someone who is maladjusted. I wish I could get as excited by trainspotting/football as normal people

Some apps, like Yoti, focus on sharing only the necessary information, such as verifying someone is over 18, without requiring full personal details.

an option for UKP should they need to comply  :unknown:

Data minimisation:
Many apps aim to collect only the minimum amount of data needed for age verification, and then delete it once the verification is complete.

If in UK law, all porn site must verify age by July, but most of these porn site are based outside of the Uk.  Now the only thing I can think of, that might happen, if these sites dont have any verification for age, they will be blocked, here in the UK

Every time I see the word "robustly" I spy a load of pretentious and often meaningless bollocks coming down the chute.

Yes the Act applies to all Social Media platforms and says they must comply with all it entails, which includes pornography access.

Will Musk do so? Watch this space .....  :unknown:

It's behind a paywall mate.

I don't see that message. I'm not a subscriber either. It's a bit rambling

This is the text I see (thumbnail attached)
UK’s New Child Safety Rules Set to Challenge Age Verification Process on X

New rules from the UK’s communications regulator will challenge the way Elon Musk’s X platform and others handle age verification and pornographic content on their platforms.

Ofcom unveiled on Thursday the final draft of its children’s safety codes designed to protect users under the age of 18 from harmful content. The rules require social media services such as X to prevent children from seeing pornography by implementing “highly effective” age checks no later than July.

X is unique among mainstream social networks in that it allows users to post content that includes nudity and sexual behavior. Rivals such as Meta Platforms Inc.’s Facebook and Instagram explicitly ban pornographic material. While X says that it restricts this type of content to users who say they’re over 18, there aren’t additional checks that would prevent someone from misrepresenting their age.

Ofcom suggests platforms verify ages by checking with banks or mobile network operators, or using photo-ID matching or facial-age-estimating software.

“If services have minimum age requirements but are not using strong age checks, they must assume younger children are on their service and ensure they have an age-appropriate experience,” Ofcom said in the guidance.

A representative for X didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Musk has said repeatedly that he believes X should allow all content as long as it’s lawful. X blocks users who list their age as under 18 or who haven’t provided a birth date from viewing adult content, according to the company’s policy. It also allows adult users to opt out of seeing the posts.

A spokesperson for Ofcom said that the new measures “will go beyond current industry standards and lead to children living safer lives online. If we do not see meaningful changes from industry, companies can expect enforcement action.”

The rules set up another potential clash between Musk and European regulators over content moderation. The EU is investigating X for violations of the Digital Service Act, which also requires platforms to tackle illegal content and disinformation. Musk has previously said on X that he will fight a DSA fine through “a very public battle in court.”

Ofcom’s child safety measures are part of the Online Safety Act, a broader clampdown on digital abuse, fraud and “harmful content,” which came into force at the end of 2023 and is being rolled out on an ongoing basis. The child safety regulation is meant to protect children from encountering a range of harmful topics online including suicide, eating disorders and self harm.

Platforms — including social networks, search engines and video games — will be obligated under the rules to conduct broad assessments of the potential risks that their services pose to children. They’ll also have to have a named executive accountable for children’s safety, give children broad control over who can invite them to chats or comment on their posts and have systems in place that make it easy for users to report inappropriate posts.

“The major point is that now platforms will have to build with safety in mind,” said Lina Ghazal, head of regulatory and public affairs at Verifymy, an identity verification service.

Any app or site not in compliance with the measures could be subject to enforcement action, including fines and court orders that would prevent them from being accessed in the UK.

Regulators trying to increase moderation on some areas of the internet increasingly have come into conflict with politicians and influencers who decry such efforts as impeding free speech. Some sites known for hosting conspiracies and coordinated harassment campaigns have recently chosen to exit the UK rather than comply with Ofcom’s latest changes.

Gab, one of the sites used to plan the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol, is broadcasting a message saying it will shut down in Britain in the face of “unacceptable legal and compliance risks.” Kiwi Farms, a haven for organizing so-called swatting attacks, and Bitchute, which hosts incendiary videos, have also signaled they will cease operations in the UK amid the rules.

Musk repeatedly criticized UK authorities last year amid a series of violent demonstrations through the country that were caused in part by the spread of online misinformation. Officials prosecuted people in Britain for posting hateful speech around the riots, which began after a deadly stabbing attack in Southport, England. US Vice President JD Vance echoed Musk’s sentiments during a February meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Kommons appears to have introduced a new feature re Age Verification.

Clothed photos are still displayed but video and topless/bottomless photos are locked behind a screen that states;
"To unlock more content, you must verify your age as required by UK law".
'Age verification once and it's only 30 seconds'.

Leads to a screen to create a User account with a charge of £1.99 and 'verification'....I didn't progress any further!

a lot? its less than £2,000 and won't even pay for the IT and process changes they have to make!!

I noticed this (Kommons) yesterday.

I have also noticed how the ads have dwindled for the London area - and that's before any of these changes. Last year they generally 3k escorts advertised in the capital. This past month, the number stands at about 1400.

Clothed photos should be the work around if these new regulations are that strict. The paywall model will probably smother  a site like Kommons. Although admitedly I know next to nothing about their MO, I'm just a guy who likes browsing around (without even punting that much really).

It seems the folks putting up the ads are adjusting quickly.

Kommons makes no sense. You have to  verify your age to see nude pics but nothing is stopping a under 18 to book an escort through their site.

Kommons attitude is - You have to prove your over 18 to view naked pics but you don't have to to book escorts.

I think the best way is through the mobile provider instead of individual sites and platforms.

How would that work for foreign websites? Would you be happy for your mobile provider to share info to another country like the USA? Until there is something like a universal one way hash that follows an international standard, then I think it's a non-starter or at least a lot of confusion. If a bad actor clones your sim card then what? I think something  that only people over 18 can obtain should be used to verify.

When a mobile network blocks adult content sites, it works across the board no matter what country the website location is based in.

Last year, when i got a new mobile network I had to confirm to my network provider that I was over the age of 18. Before confirming i couldn't  access porn hub which is based in the usa and other websites.

Accessing through TOR works
So the site is up, we're blocked from seeing it
Presumably using a proxy would bypass the problem

An interesting article on CNN: External Link/Members Only

"The owner of Pornhub has blocked access to its website in France because of its objections to a new French law requiring pornographic sites to verify the age of their users.
Adult entertainment company Aylo has 'made the difficult decision to suspend access' in France to its 'user-uploaded' platforms – which also include sites YouPorn and Redtube – from Wednesday, Alex Kekesi, Aylo’s vice president of brand and community, said in a statement."

I wonder if they will do this in the UK soon?
