Hi All

Will Google's announcement of using 'Find My Device' make it easier for us to give away our location to our partners or am I worried about nothing?

I’m not an Android user, but can’t you switch it off? You can with the Apple equivalent on iPhones and iPads

Another good reason for a punting phone that the OH doesn't know about.

Offline maybe

I still wonder what people do with "find my location". Even if you a punting phone, you still have your phone when you travel around right? You can't always leave your phone at home or work right. How do you guys handle it on iphone? What happens if you aeroplane mode for a period of time?

‘Find my’ etc works from your location data via the phone itself, and the ‘when off’ mode uses the last known location

Just the addition of a ‘new’ feature for android is little to no change to those who don’t want their movements known.  Your Google / Apple location history tracks you anyway and can be accessed already by whoever you grant permissions to

You would need to be turning off, not providing access to find you and/or disabling location services if you have concerns about your movements being picked up

Offline maybe

Thanks for the info! In theory, does this mean that as long as i'm offline in aeroplane mode for the "blackout period", then i'm good? I'm fearing that when I come back online, everywhere you've been is then available in history.

Don't know about the location bit but the wife / GF may ask why your phone was going to straight to voicemail . How do i know this  :D
