You're all forgetting the reason why pagers were being used instead of mobiles: geolocation.
Any mobile phone can be geolocated, either through GPS technology, phone mast triangulation, or monitoring of local wifi signals. If you can geolocate a phone you can locate its owner and kill him.
Pagers don't work that way. Pager signals are broadcast simulataneously over the whole pager network. It's a one-way signal outgoing only. No GPS, no triangulation, no wifi tracking. Untraceable
That is why Hezbollah had switched to pagers
Any mobile phone can be traced, a pager can't.

Nobody has come up with the answer to this ↓ yet.   :unknown:
How do you get the targets to want and buy in bulk cheap unreliable mobile phones as against pagers?   :unknown:

there is no answer, because no terrorist who wants to stay alive is going to use a mobile.
A cheap simple phone can be tracked even if it doesn't have GPS - it can be triangulated.
A heavily secured and anonymised phone can still be tracked - as the guys behind the Encrochat network found out the hard way.
If you want anonymity, don't use a mobile phone of any kind

Exactly, that's why I can't understand why people are even mentioning that mobile phones could be booby trapped in the same way.  :unknown:

Now that the cat is out of the bag, nobody is safe. All kinds of people could be at risk, not just so-called "terrorists". Think about politicians, high level business leaders, journalists, critics of certain governments. All of these people are at risk now, they would also need to stop using mobile phones, or any type of electronic device anymore. The repercussions of this could be massive.
Banned reason: Habitual troll type posts after assuring that sort of thing would stop.

Only if an individuals specific phone can be briefly stolen, modified and returned unnoticed. Fairly unlikely. Doing a direct swap out like-for-like wouldn't work as the user software personalisation would reveal the switch

There's not really any space in a modern mobile phone to stick explosives in.

Have you tried taking one apart to replace the screen?

Triangulation still works though, it's one of many things that led to the "Soham Murderer" Ian Huntley getting caught.

I thik iirc that he was logged onto a cell where he wouldnt have normally gone.

Among other questionable things like a tyre chage etc long time ago now!

There is a app, it'll come to he me in a moment, that shows you what cell you are using and these for the greater part have sectorised aerials rather than ommni directional ones!...
