Staying in preston for two nights. Wondering if there was a good hotel without any SP or tinder matches bumping into the concierges

You've posted this in the NE region, do you mean Preston near North Shields in Tyne and Wear or the far larger Preston in Lancashire?   :unknown:

There's around 40 "Prestons" in the UK:   "Priests Tun" or settlement

Ah damn! I meant the large one in Lancs

You're not going to be the first person to take a lady back to your room.

Few of the Preston hotels (if any) have a concierge. Some have 24hr reception or security staff - presumably that's what you mean? The Marriott in Fulwood is busy enough for it not to matter. Premier often has a door/security man, but they're not in the business of asking room-key carrying guests any questions. Some of the boutique places have semi private entrances. If you're really concerned about it - get a private apartment, though, even then, most places have motion-triggered CCTV

I have punted at the Marriott, the Ibis and the Tickled Trout. They all are fairly discreet but most hotels really don’t care about you bringing a lady in for a visit!
Always make sure you have ticked the box for 2 persons occupying the room and the best way is to meet the lady at reception or the bar or even the car park. Then just walk in together like any other couple

I had a SP refused entry by security to the Marriott in Liverpool. They asked for her keycard, just giving the booking name wasn’t accepted ( I even put her name down on the room)  This was my fault for not meeting her at reception and just giving her my room number and name. To be fair it was obvious SP was a brass.

Most hotels never had an issue though, I always try and meet them at reception to avoid any potential issues. Premier inn and some Travel lodge’s have keycard access to their elevators and stairs so you’ll have no choice but to meet at reception. I’ve found that security on the door is mostly in city centre hotels and they only really question people if they try and get in after 11pm.

Holiday Inn’s and Campanile hotels are the most relaxed for punting. (Personal experience)

just remember most Holiday Inns use ParkingEye to control the car parks
She'll need to register her car on arrival

Yep - alternative: meet outside first, then walk in together, or, if that's too overt, hand her a key (having asked for two upon check-in)

I had seen on another NW thread here that until quite recently the Trout wasn't keen on WG's using their venue as an incall location. Perhaps they also had a similarly puritan take on visitors?

I've only had it once go awry myself, at a big hotel in St Moritz. The crucifix-wearing night porter had taken a shine to my wife who'd left earlier in the day, and so when, only a few hours later, my cocky but inexperienced Moldovan guest strutted into reception unannounced and moments before I was able to reach her, giving my last name to front desk, but being visibly flummoxed at my first, and then not obviously recognising me when I greeted her; the clerk's face hardened and he gleefully tried to make it difficult, piously saying "We're not that sort of place". I took inspiration from Paddington, and fixed him with a hard stare, but yes, it had been excruciating for those 45 long seconds of confusion between the three of us.

Tickled Trout seems fine at the moment been 4times in the last month no issues

also the hotel at the top of the hill from the Tickled Trout on the way to Blackburn seems pretty flexible, can't remember its name

There's a reason for that: they got quite pissed off a couple of years back when they discovered a local agency was using a photo of the TT as a background for the agency website. Some quite heavy legals got involved.......
