Early reports are that this is heart breaking.

I'm not a million miles from there, heard all the sirens and air ambulances going over.

Scary stuff.

Whoever did it and for whatever reason has yet to be released but the country is already on the verge IMO so this could set things off good and proper

On the verge of kicking off

The are various tensions between races, religions and God knows what else

If it turns out it is a person belonging to X group then Y group could use it as an excuse to go nuclear

Whatever happened to 'Thoughts are with the children, families and adults surrounding them'  :unknown:

To be fair, I think that is a given.

The police have said not to speculate about the identity of the assailant which only encourages people to speculate  :dash:

We will find out in time but this has the potential to be incendiary.

From the news report, the youth is 17 years old, but so far nothing about his background, but the police said it not terror related

Not treating it as terror related but not ruled it out completely

Offline Jerboa

They always immediately come out with not terror related, how can they honestly know minutes after the attack? Why did the Chief need to mention he was originally from Cardiff?

Pictures of the three little girls have been posted.
It's so cruel what has happened.

On Facebook on a story about Tommy Robinson, they mention about this boy, and his parents and where there from, and they came to the UK around 2012, when the boy was 6 yr old

I have heard rumours, but prefer to wait for the facts to come out rather than jumping on the first info posted, many were stating he was on a MI6 watchlist, they obviously don't know much, it would be a MI5 watchlist.

WTF does anyone have to try to relate an event like this to a sick twat like Robinson? He wasn't there, he'll have no more information about it than you or I have, just from what we can pick up from the sparse details on the news.
It's as if citing his name makes something magically true..........it's all a load of bollocks. By attaching his name to the story it gives false credibility to the wild misinformation/disinformation that's circulating. If his name is attached, then someone is attempting misdirection of the truth

I think there's a lot of angry people looking for someone to blame.  There's also sadly a lot of people looking to exploit the situation to cause divisions in the UK population to blame migrants and the new government. It's a long hot summer of frustrated and angry people.

It is hard to protect people from such attacks.

I think people need to try to calm down and let people grieve and the injured recover. I suspect that there may be more deaths to come in the next few days.

The authorities are on it now.  The rationale behind the attack will become clear.  Whether anyone could have prevented it will probably become clear. There are probably 1000s of individuals on watchlists and it is difficult to track them all. The person who did this attack may or may not have been on such a list.  We don't really know.

It would be best for people to remain calm.

Social media at its worst

"Almost immediately after the deadly stabbing attack in Southport, baseless rumours began spreading online.

While police and emergency services were still responding to the attack, a widely shared LinkedIn post claimed without evidence that "a migrant" was responsible.

But the most viral source of rumours so far has been a report published on an obscure US-based website which claims to cover "breaking news".

The report falsely claims that that the 17-year old suspect is an "asylum seeker" named "Ali Al-Shakati", who "arrived in the UK by boat last year".

Merseyside Police has confirmed that the suspect was born in Cardiff, and has yet to identify the 17-year-old.

The report also adds that the suspect was "on the MI6 watch list", despite the fact that it is MI5, not MI6, that deals with domestic counter-terrorism cases.

The name "Ali Al-Shakati" has since been widely shared online in posts viewed by millions.

Some other outlets, including Russia's RT news channel, have also reported this name, citing the US-based website.

Other variations of the report, including the claim that the suspect was a "Channel migrant", have also been widely circulated."

The 17-year-old suspect was born in Cardiff to Rwandan parents. He had moved to the Southport area in 2013 - he is still being questioned by police.

Helen, a neighbour of the suspect's family while they lived in Cardiff, has spoken of her shock at hearing the news from Southport.

"They were a lovely young couple. They were little boys, they were boisterous. Mum was a stay-at-home mum, Dad was nice, he went to work every day.

"They had a small family car, a little hatchback. They said they'd come from Rwanda and I thought, whatever you've been through, you deserve privacy.

"I'm not going to pry, you know, you've already got a story, and it's probably not a good one. It (the Rwandan genocide) had been in the news about a year before that.

"They were a normal family and they were normal kids trying to make ends meet. We chatted over the garden fence. You know, in the summer the back doors open, we chatted over the fence."

The suspect cannot be named for legal reasons.

Offline DastardlyDick

Why did the Chief need to mention he was originally from Cardiff?
Because a well known peddler of Fake News put it on Twitter that he was an Asylum seeker from Rwanda - eventually this got into the hands of far right politicians who used it to fit their narrative.

Who can blame them emotions must be running high after this targeted attack.

Correct.
Maybe the security services who had him on a watch list (daily telegraph)

Offline RandomGuy99

Because there was one man in a grey outfit who seemed to have some very prepared things he was saying and he was the first to shout out. The PM's protection officer also seemed interested in him, so I imagine he travels the country stirring shit up.

If the PM hadn't visited he'd get criticised for being heartless

He turned up and gets heckled for lack of action like it's his fault. I think the man in grey had an anti-immigrant agenda.

The BBC footage of the flower laying shows him best.  Looked like an EDL supporter/rent a mob guy to me.  The protection officers definitely clocked him and so did some members of the press

I'm totally against these riot's.
I have family members in this constabulary, and neighbouring forces.
This is not the best way to display anger or grief about this knife attack.

Sounds like the same right wing rent-a-mob as were behind the riot against asylum seekers at the Suites Hotel, Knowsley in 2023.
A police van was torched there and officers attacked - this sounds like a reply and it's only ten miles or so down the road.

Offline Thecunninglinguist

Those who attacked a town in mourning tonight are in my view disgusting specimens of human beings. The lowest of the low. Those who follow certain shit stirrers, for they are nothing else only interested in their own notoriety, must be totally mindless morons.
Yes the country has serious problems but the mob is not the way to deal with them.  The vast majority are keyboard warriors on social media but would hide under the table at the first sign of real trouble, screaming like a banshee.

Rant over.

The English Defence League are named by the police as behind the ongoing trouble on the streets of Southport, officers hurt, police van fired.

Meanwhile three children are dead and others fighting for their lives; families grieving and a community in shock.

It's too bad for words

I hate the EDL at the best of times but today was anew low for them.  Absolutely fucking disgusting behaviour from a bunch of c***s who just want to stir up divisions and have a laugh while smashing shit up.

All while a community is grieving.

C***s.  The lot of them.

A lot of this come about due to a information vacuum.Things have moved on with the internet and if the police do not give  good information quickly others will fill that vacuum , often with incorrect ( sometimes deliberately ) information. I know for legal reasons the police can only say so much but they need to say more.

As for the rioters they are just a bunch of thick thugs.

There is a video on X of one of the thugs being taken out by friendly fire - a rock bounced off a riot shield and hit his head and then someone threw a bit big rock and hit him in the nuts.
