Every time I see North Korea's leader TV, I think he looks such a buffoonish character.
But watching this documentary brings home what an evil, murdering bastard he is.
Heart-rending to watch at times, as a mother tries to secure her son's release to the South, but apparently fails and contemplates his torture and likely execution at the end.
You see glimpses of the states brutality to its citizens at the start.
One family has a happier experience and is able to find freedom in South Korea, through the efforts of a very courageos pastor. However, this liberation takes in a very tortuous, arduous route, including Laos and Vietnam.
Something that was astonshing to hear was that apparently in North Korea there is no proper sanitation system, and, what's more, people are expected to donate their excrement to the state. Apparently, it's collected by state officials and used to irrigate farms. Added to this, people are expected to accumulate so much to meet regulations, and there are instances where people steal other peoples poo to satisfy protocol!
Absolutely crazy, and also funny, if the backdrop wasn't so tragic.

What she has endured is beyond imagination. There's a link of an interview with her by Jordan Peterson, who at one point starts to cry. Him, that's how bad her story is. The interview is over 2 hours long but very sadly far from dull.

I have my doubts she's genuine.
I've seen videos debunking her claims and to be honest her stuff is meat and drink to the "isn't America great and we should really do something about these regimes " Just to spread democracy of course.

I haven't heard anything from her, it's pretty universally accepted that DPRK is an oppressive regime with a terrible human rights record.
They've had sanctions against them in one form or another for about 70 years so I don't think there's any new plan around this

If this is a vehicle to make America appear great then it's a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Even Iran would look like the land of milk and honey in comparison.

 Interestingly she's not popular with those on the 'liberal' left because of criticism about the inflexible ideologies taking hold of universities, media etc where discourse is, shall we say, unwelcome.

Sanctions?! That's a laugh. Change will only come through either war (God forbid) or intervention/persuasion from China.

Remember that North Korea is strongly allied to Putins Russia, supplies Russian with weapons and ammo for the illegal invasion of democratic Ukraine. It is no wonder that the Kremlin mouth piece would support it, against all evidence as he does with Putin.
