PETA calls on amusement ride manufacturer to stop selling animal-themed carousels .

Hidden Image/Members Only

PETA got on its high horse this week, calling on the country’s largest manufacturer of amusement rides to stop selling animal-themed carousels.

The animal rights organization sent a letter to Kansas-based Chance Rides on Tuesday arguing that using designs of horses and other animals for the merry-go-round “unintentionally celebrates the exploitation” of animals that are “thinking, feeling, affectionate, playful, and social beings.”

By eliminating animal-themed amusement rides, it would be a blow against industries that still use real animals for entertainment like camel rides or dolphin shows, PETA insisted. Those live animals can face abuse or horrid conditions, the group noted.

PETA suggested to Aaron Landrum, the CEO and president of Chance Rides, that his company only use objects like cars, unicycles, rockets or other designs like shooting stars, rainbows or brooms.

Aaron Landrum should have said that he was trying to promote a more environmentally friendly mode of transport.

Aaron Landrum, the CEO and president of Chance Rides should write an open letter in response telling PETA that they are not going to be told what to do by idiots such as PETA. They should publicly call them idiots IMO.

What next from PETA. Are they going to demand that ancient Egyptian cat statues should be melted down?

I don't think this is woke.

I think it is an extremist viewpoint. One which may stimulate some kind of debate, but its certainly not for here.

I agree this is not woke, nothing to do with being woke but extremist trying to get themselves headlines.

And people with too much time on their hands trying to find a new campaign...jobsworth might be more apt

Why is it not for here.   :unknown:  It isn't political or anything to do with race or religion?

Sorry Davie, I was thinking it could get very political very quickly. In fact I am not sure how to explain the point without it getting political. Sticking purely to the thread title...aren't most "ism"s political?

Where does politics come into it??? PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is not a political party as far as I'm aware, they are trying to say that using designs of horses and other animals for the merry-go-round “unintentionally celebrates the exploitation” of animals that are “thinking, feeling, affectionate, playful, and social beings.”

They are campaigning the manufacturers not any government.   :unknown:

This sort of stuff used to make me apoplectic with rage.
Now,  I treat it the same as I would crossing a field full of defecating cows. Steer a wide berth. Its not worth the risk or unpleasantness to come anywhere near it.

So the views of one group of loons are sated..... only to offend another, I mean what's Greta and co. going to say about those cars and rockets?

So many angry activists who don't give a fuck about the destination, they're having too much fun on the journey.

The finest example of woke bollocks (and idiotic marketing) I have seen is an online  by Premier Inns featuring two bearded models in bed together.

Maybe they should write back and say they would like to use mythical creatures, specifically unicorns, but due to health and safety rules they had to remove the sharp pointy objects so now they just look like horses.  :P

Cats aint the only problem
The egyptians might have something to say about this ⬇️
When you stand right next to them you realise why they are one of the seven wonders of the world
Its mind boggling what was involved some 4,000+ years ago
& despite it usually being like 100 degrees i had goose bumps

I would like to know who was in charge of the build
Someone like this could have the fuck ups like Hinckley Point & HS2 which take 3x as long and run 3x over budget [if they are lucky] sorted

The NHS & local councils could give PETA a run for their money in being wokey champions

Yep.

I find it really sad that people decide to call "woke" anything they don't like or disagree with.
