I see that the Liberal Democrats have voted to legalise brothels and allow prostitutes to advertise or ply their trade on street corners without fear of arrest:

Steve Webb, the pensions minister, will today call for workers to automatically sacrifice a portion of any pay rise they receive to tackle the UK’s pensions crisis.

Webb denied that the policy, likely to be included in the Lib Dem manifesto, was an unfair intrusion. “If your pension contribution has come out already, you will not miss it,” he said.

So it looks like we goihg to have to pay more to see said ladies in our later years;!.

Sadly, the LibDems have zero chance of much success in the next election I would have thought, even in terms of having a say via a coalition, so it's probably academic! Nevertheless, it's good if it leads to further debate and some parliamentary consideration.

I am hoping the Lib-Dems lose a lot of MPs at the election and wont be in a position to form another coalition in a hung parliament so this wouldnt arise as a policy they can implement.

In addition they are a bunch of proven liars who reneged on previous commitments made before the last election so i wouldnt trust them anyway.

It does seem consistent with Liberalism to vote for it. When you consider that the Tories have a busybody-ish, puritanical streak about them and that Labour is the go to party for feminazis, the Lib Dems are the only party who would actually see that there are women who willingly enter the industry and that legalising and taxing the industry would reduce room for scumbag traffickers to operate.

But as others said, it is all academic because they wont be in power for a LONG time after May.

Trouble is, with their inbuilt determination to tax everything enjoyed by those considered to be rich, they`ll want to tax prostitution, along with mansions, to increase benefits for the workshy and indigent immigrants.

They may as well promise to buy all punters a car to carry out kerb crawling because they are going to be totally humiliated at next years election -------------- just as they were in the European Elections where they lost 10 seats.   :bomb:

Legalising brothels I can understand but street walking?  Why would they want that legal.  It brings extra traffic and noise to the area ta night as well as  drugs and those that deal them.  In todays day and age there is no need for anyone to work on the streets.  You can have a free AW profile and a free website and work indoors where not only is it warm and discreet you can also have safety procedures set up.  Street walking should stay illegal unless they set up areas away from residents for them to be as no one wants that where they live.

I was a street punter for many years but in hindsight I can see that it is not fair on the residents who live in those areas, street prostitution will never be made legal.

Pro$$ies wouldn't want ot work in a legalised brothel, they would have to pay tax, have health checks, be accountable, work longer hours, earn less as they would perhaps be paid £20 an hour (Still approx three times minimum wage) and on top of that it would fuck up their benefits.

The current situation is quite fair as it doesn't criminalise the client or the pro$$ie just the pimps  :hi:

True I guess the Lib Dems are trying to get votes from anywhere now and they know how many men use prossies so are hoping this will get them a few extra votes.
However most men have families and wont want the druggies and pushers, the night time traffic or the used condoms dumped all over their street either.
Why not just make it legal for women to work together as long as no one is in control.  Legitimise the industry.  bring in licenses and make it so anyone working or seeing a prossie without a license can be arrested.  Charge us the cost of the license etc and make it so we can only work each month if our license is marked as seem by a GUM clinic and after drugs testing.  That way every prossie would have to pay tax, it would not stop but really hit the traffickers in the pocket as those without valid documents to work wouldnt get a license.
Its easy to implement as other countries have including Australia and even bloody Turkey and if they can manage it I am sure the UK can.
It would bring in millions in revenue from tax and even the licenses.  It would also help to de stigmatise the industry

Sounds wonderful, of course it would never work, can you imagine Romanian girls registering with HMRC.

No but then they risk being arrested and so would their clients as they would not get a license if they were not registered.  So it would be a case of register or most clients wouldn't risk visiting you

Sergei would have them all on zero hour contracts and pay them £7 an hour, so I suppose the Romanian pro$$ies may find it a pay increase  :hi:

This is just another of the many threats and promises churned out by the Lib Dem machine.  They know as well as we do that they will never form a government on their own so they will never be expected to carry it out.  Obviously, if they manage to sidle their way in as  a very junior [part of a coalition, whatever promises they have made will simply be ignored by the senior partner in the coalition - can anybody imagine  Harriet Harperson ever agreeing to such a proposition?

Lib dems don't have a chance.

Secondly many WG don't want to work 'legally'. I have a semi friend semi acquaintance. She used to work on the front desk at a London brothel it the early 00s. Then worked as a WG maid until she found a better job with the NHS.

Essentially it comes down to money. I work as a freelancer because it saves my boss 15% (NIC EER) I am ok with it because it saves me 14% EE NIC) and I can claim expenses.

The situation is similar with WGs. She said a WG doing 6 hours might walk away with £50, as the brothel would take a cut for the room and 'protection' and also sundries. Apparently WG's go through pallets of mouthwash. Add in tea/coffee (which the house charges) add in cigs and some were looking at £30-40 a night. Which wasn't exactly a huge amount of motivation to be banged by random blokes, the alternative banging loads of guys and making it up by volume was equally bad as it would 'wear' them out meaning days taken off.

Myself I think the Hong Kong system works kind of OK. Though some WGs rely on turn over so the WG you've doing may well have been banged by 5-10 guys before you. There was this LEGEND ugly as sin but she was legendary, she always had a big queue and would apparently charge the sky and do 15 a day. I saw her naked once her groin area was black with bruising from being pounded.

Anyway what happens is the small 400sqft flats are cut into 4 self contained units. During unbusy down time the WGs all sit in one room and chat, play cards and buy stocks. When they see a guy on the cameras getting into a lift they all scoot off to their own rooms. The even smaller places( this is HK after all) will have 2-3 girls working out of a small flat and the girl chosen does you. While the other 2 hide in some sort of cubby hole built into the flat.

I am praying for a dead cat bounce in the Liberal ratings.  In coalition they mitigated many of the outrageous Tory policies.  I know they reneged on student loans, but had little choice in the matter.  They and the Greens are the only parties that have said decriminalize sex work.   If they could form a coalition with Labour, then there might be some chance of not getting the Sex Buyer Law in England and Wales.

its a law that could never be enforced, no need to worry about it.

Offline elrond

It may be difficult to enforce, I though would expect the police would take a more proactive stance is closing down escort agencies and working flats.  Presently some forces allow them to operate discreetly.

funding plays a part in the NHS's problems but nurses' attitude
and work ethic have deteriorated so much in recent years.
a lot of them of them just don't give a fuck.
a prossie giving a crap blowjob is one thing, not bothering
to give water to a helpless patient is unforgiveable.

Have to agree that nursing standards have really slipped but it is also somewhat understandable.  They work bloody hard for not a great deal of money and are always short staffed.  where a single ward used to have a minimum of 6 trained nurses not including ward sister they now have two per ward and the rest are healthcare assistants just to change beds and take blood pressure so a whole ward is basically looked after by two people which I can tell you now is impossible to do properly and with any hope of caring about the patients as there is not time.  It takes an hour or more four times a day just for one of the nurses to do the medicine round, then you have the non stop  buzzers and people who need feeding and washing and lifted in and out of bed, new patients that take up to an hour to admit to the ward and with all that they still have to find time for all the paper work and ordering medicines each shift that are needed for the patients (morphine etc only comes up n batches of 10 units and no more than that can be ordered in one go) as well as changing dressings and sorting out cannulas and IVs.  Plus it now takes half an hour for handover at the start and end of each shift so that's an hour each shift with no nurses on ward due to the regulations they brought in a few years ago that all nurses had to be at handover so everyone knows about each patient (stupid as one nurse could do it then tell the other afterwards as they were working).

The NHS is getting crap due to all the cuts as they have cut the nursing staff down so much now as it is cheaper to just have hardly trained health care assistants who did a 3month course
