I've posted a comparative review with links to technical spec and somehow it ended up on the politics thread that was discussing appliances, but I am guessing maybe it could be of interest to others. Or thoughts on latest phones generally?

I use Samsungs and have banned Apple products from my household as everyone I've bought has fallen apart like a cheap suit.
Cannot stand marketing over function having said that I fell for it twice,I've also never seen an iphone without a smashed screen.

Iphone every time for me and has been since smart phones became normal

Find them so easy to use and the complete opposite with Androids

Doubt I'll change from Apple going forward unless something groundbreaking emerges

change is frightening, I still measure in inches but really should use cms as everyone tells me its easier

Once upon a time (long time ago) one of Apples missions was open architecture then they changed to tight control of as many aspects of their products that they could by patents

Of course you find Apple stuff easy to use - its what you are used to - its not brainwashing but its on the road

Are you sure about that? Steve Jobs was against anything open from the year dot which was why the original Lisa and Macintoshes virtually bankrupted the company.

I'm too busy and hate technology too much to try and learn something new, unless I have to.

Apple products do everything I want/need them to do so I'll stick with them for now.

Other companies probably do make good products etc but I cba dealing with the initial learning phase

Are you sure about that? Steve Jobs was against anything open from the year dot which was why the original Lisa and Macintoshes virtually bankrupted the company.

Before the LISA and The Macs they produced 6 million Apple IIe computers and hundreds of far eastern firms started producing cards for the Apple bus

there is a great story that Jobs decided they needed a top marketing man to take Apple forward and in 1983 targetted John Sculley who was at the time CEO of Pepsi. Sculley wasn't interested, why take the risk he was very well paid in a cushy job with Pepsi. Jobs eventually got to him one on one and asked "You can sell fizzy water for the rest of your life or you can come with me and change the world"
He didnt change the world but he changed Apple and within 2 years Jobs was pushed out of Apple but made a triumphant return in 1996

I've always thought that iPhones are too expensive.
Never had a Samsung either.

Android for me.  Used to do the root and custom ROM thing but it's just stock GUI these days as the CPU's are quicker, plenty ram and storage.

Never got sucked into the apple or Samsung verse like a phombie.  Google play store and gapps is all I need.

Same here. I used Lineage OS and loved it. So much quicker, no bloat and more customisable than any other manufacturers Android versions.

I'm looking into trying a de-Googled OS like GrapheneOS when I get a bit of time and get a supported hardware.

As a couple others have hinted, it's more iPhone v Android.  Long ago Android was the poor relation in performance, but now it's indistinguishable and at much lower cost.  My current phone is a Samsung and it's fantastic. I'll hold onto it as long as possible, which could be a long time as 5G still looks far off as far as the general user/ market is concerned.

I've got a Samsung Z Fold 4. What's the comparative Apple model - Oh there isn't one  :D - how many years behind are they  :P

I think iPhones interface and apps all look a bit child like, especially compared to Android.

Android is kind of like what grown ups use.

I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy Golden and for Christmas will be getting the Samsung W2019.

Do like the dual touchscreen of the Golden, does the basics really well which is all I need. Also, do like having a dual screen Android flip phone rather than just another generic slab as it's different and catches the eye. :)

Ditched Samsung when they started charging iPhone type prices for their top of the range phones. Previous and current phone both Google Pixels and very happy with them.

External Link/Members Onlysuggests a refurbished Pixel for under £200 which is a massive price difference.

Does anyone that has an all-Apple system (for both work and leisure) also use an android?

I can see the point of having an old android as a second or hobbying phone, but my iPhone is nearing replacement and the thought of getting a new Android (and using the existing iPhone as a second phone) looks less appealing when so much rides on things like AirDrop and sharing Cloud across multiple devices. Plus it means learning how to use an android all over again (which I found to be great fun last time and seriously pissed me off at iPhones until the android bricked after less than two years, but it’s still a learning curve). With so much on my plate I’m not sure I want the extra hassle.

I love the ability to customise androids but on the other hand the iPhone iOS is structurally resistant to malware in a way the android isn’t. This has always been the difference, same as with Apple vs Windows. It’s ok if you have time and inclination to look after security on your non-Apple device but can be a hassle. On the other hand, Apple’s frequent security updates can be a pain — old apps might be disabled for non-compliance and the big blot on Apple’s record was degrading battery life using upgrades (their excuse when caught was, it was ‘necessary’ to run new features — not many people bought it, and Apple suggested getting a new battery).

My job entails using both operating systems.

Kept to android for previous 10 years, mainly because dual sim meant I didn't need to carry 2 devices.
Now in management and needed the seperation.

Iphone 14 pro personal
Samsung S23 work

Is one better than the other?

In all honesty, the iphone is better in some areas, the Samsung better in others.

Both OS are slowly converging and the hardware leapfrogs each other.

😂.    Got out of a cab (drunk) and dropped my iPhone. The bloody cab reversed iver it before I knew it had fallen out of my pocket 😱.
Smashed screen etc. I thought it was a goner but no.

I know a bloke who knows a bloke who fitted a replacement screen and it’s been fine ever since.

I just stick to iPhone cos it’s what I know

Neither for me. MotoG works for me. Have had a couple of Samsungs in the past but always wished I'd stuck with MotoG and now stick with them . Never spend more than about £150 at current prices. Cannot see the point of spending more especially the silly price of iPhones even though I have a MacBook air which IMO is simply the best laptop ever. A cheap Android always does everything I need all the time

IMHO opinions on iOS vs Android. I think when it comes to software and ease of use iOS or Apple/iPhones are king plus they’re easy to use and all of the iPhones have 6 year software support. Android are good for their hardware and charge much, much faster than the latest iPhone, that have better cameras and better screen without any notches or that annoying Dynamic Island thing.

As an Apple user I prefer iOS over Android due to the simplicity and ease of the operating system. I have family members who own Samsung Galaxy smartphones and I find it really confusing to use and such a faff to use. I hope the upcoming iPhones gets rid of the Dynamic Island design, bring back Touch ID and offer much faster charging.

Yes.

Work has me using multiple OSs all the time but the preference is Apple purely because it’s simple and uncomplicated. Apple aren’t impervious to malware/virus’ but Android/Windows are so much more widely used (due to the plethora of hardware configurations) that nefarious actors are drawn that way.

If you were a regular Samsung user, you would find an iPhone complicated and confusing, as do I. It's just familiarity of use.

As for "King" - same answer. Unless you have significant experience of both, you can't make that pronouncement.

One gripe I have about Apple is their way of making everything proprietary / locked and therefore tying you in to the Apple ecosystem.

I still use mine, sadly it’s laden with Android-ness but the keyboard is 2nd to none! I agree, they had their head in the sand much the same way Nokia and Symbian did but BlackBerry were the most influential manufacturers of their time.

Not easy to transfer. I was pulling my hair out when I moved to Macs from Windows, though I think the added security is a big plus. The annoying thing for me is seeing people using a Galaxy to do things faster, with greater range and customization.

I skipped through some of the video but I didn't quite get the purpose of titanium for a phone.
It's marginally lighter but its usefulness on space rockets or whatever doesn't make it better for phones. 50% lighter than steel? but will I really feel the difference?

That's why I think that many iPhone users say that IOS is easy to use. Compared to my Galaxy the IOS operating system appears to be a cut down system with just the basics to get you by, almost as though you bought the cheapest version of a phone that isn't feature rich.

e.g. This happened yesterday on IOS - I was trying to remove a paired Bluetooth device. In the connections / Bluetooth you can see what devices you have connected, but it appears there's nothing you can do with them. There may be another route or section that you go in to to edit or view what devices have been or are on Bluetooth, but it wasn't obvious.

Whereas in the Settings / Connections / Bluetooth on my Galaxy I can see all devices that have ever been paired. Beside each one is a gear icon, if you click the gear you can edit everything and customise the features that the paired device can use. You can edit the name, unpair it, make it shareable.

Yep. iPhone paved the way by being so simple it didn't need an instruction book. But then the simple got so complicated you have to go online to find out how to work it. For bluetooth (you may have tried this already)  you click on the device in Settings>Bluetooth and choose "forget this device". The "forgetting" is only temporary -- I use it all the time to connect my airpods to something else. It'll scan them when you want to re-connect.

Probably an iPhone 11 onwards. They’re the minimum compatible with the latest ios17 and slim enough to be discrete. Separate iCloud account etc and crack on.

Thanks nuckingfuts. I’ve got an old iPhone SE 1st gen but the software support for that phone ended in 2022. I might go for the iPhone SE 2nd gen and follow your advice about a separate iCloud with fake names etc and do not add any insta, facebook or any other social networking apps apart from WhatsApp.

iPhone 11’s are not worth it because it’s their 5th year of release this year and because iPhones only have software support for 6 years. Next year the latest iOS software will no longer offer any support to the iPhone 11. I’d still go for the iPhone SE 2020 version.. Plus you can buy a refurbished one for just over £100 online.

I think the claim is based partly on the architecture: unlike android, it’s a closed structure where apps are ring-fenced to limit their ability to do harm. The other reason I've heard is that it’s less worth while to hackers, partly as it’s a bit harder and partly as it’s a smaller market.

Nevertheless security glitches that allow hackers are discovered with fair frequency and patches as soon as Apple sees them. My accountant says Apple products have lower depreciation and true or not it counts in the figures.

I think they are marginally more secure but that’s only a user opinion (ex-Android & ex-Windows). I’m not a techie
