In Thai culture, it is common for adult children to regularly give money to their parents or wider family. If there are family members who are useless at managing money (unfortunately very common), it will be very expensive and never ending. They will buy gold jewellery, handbags or get involved in some complicated money lending scheme instead of putting money into a sensible savings account. Then there are other expectations to make donations to monks or other entities (to 'earn merit') that a westerner might feel less enthusiastic about after a few years, but are essential to many Thai people. Another quarrel might be the desire to visit Thailand frequently, which is expensive.
On top of that, many Thai girls who work in this industry have problems with gambling or drugs which they hide and will be a nightmare to live with. This is an addition to already having a child which they have left behind for the grandmother to raise....
Some westerners may be surprised to learn that Thai culture is quite matriarchal and women can be strong minded and fiercely independent, which might come as a shock in a relationship if you thought that you had married someone from a culture where men rule.
If you marry one of these lovely girls, you need deep pockets and the patience of a saint.
Of course, there will be many who are good, but choose carefully.
