Never cared much for Halloween 🎃  it seems far too commercialised now days . It's another Americanism that  has taken a hold in this country imo.

You shot your bolt too early, Halloween is on Tuesday.

I don’t mind the Americanisation of it, the kids enjoy it and there’s generally some themed house parties to go to with some women in sexy outfits so what’s not to like?

What I don’t like is that it’s now seen as more important that Bonfire Night, the Gunpowder Plot is part of our history and should always be celebrated!

It's not as though Halloween has any historical meaning unlike November 5th but even that date has lost its historical significance.  Bloody fireworks being let off days or even weeks around my way before 5th November. I bet most kids today are not even aware of the gunpowder plot or Guy Fawkes and it's part in the history of this country.

Lost me. Googled it. Most popular seems to be Kobe Bryant Day. Never heard of him.

It is the anniversary of us burning the White House!

I believe Halloween was actually an old pagan / Celtic tradition dating back as far as 2000 years so long before Europeans discovered America, something to do with Nov 1st being the date by when you should have finished harvesting all the crops

Agreed on all points. School proms must be a nightmare for parents who haven't much cash. Some parents are prepared to pay hundreds of £'s for the dress - as the daft cow were telling me this I was stood thinking 'You're a complete muppet'.

Nothing pagan about it. All hallows- all saints- is generally accepted as Nov 1st.
Halloween is the eve all saints (hallows)
Entirely Christian.
As a boy I can remember being dragged off to church to celebrate “Toussaints”
🎼 For all the Saints
Who from their labours rest 🎼

Unless our esteemed readership can name one pagan saint.

Of course that is simply ignoring that many of the current Christian festivals etc were broadly aligned with the old Pagan festivals as it was a way of bringing people on board

Wasn't it the president's house / palace first? Then the White House after the Yank's painted it to conceal the fire damage

Sorry to be a miserable old git, but how much land is taken up growing pumpkins and what happens to them?
From what I have seen they rot on doorsteps for a few weeks and then disappear. Can Blue Peter (other programmes are available) show people how to make pumpkin pie and other pumpkin recipes?
I imagine the farmers make more £s per acre growing them then growing "proper food".

Or just dumped expecting wildlife to eat them whilst being too ignorant to understand that they are toxic to many animals.

Agree completely. We have some of the tightest gun control in the world, but every year anyone who can pass as 18 can buy a box of high explosives and act like a prick with them. Boggles the mind.

Aldi were selling Christmas crap in early September including mince pies which were out of date by Nov.

I mentioned to a colleague, that you can now buy plastic ones, and reuse them every year.

She said " That's no good for the kids, the fun and enjoyment is in carving them".
