I went to see Micky Flanagan last night at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

Is anyone else going to see him, or seen him?

I'm a fan and fellow Cockney, having grown up in the same area and being of a similar age, his jokes really resonate with me. In fact a few times last night it seemed to me like he must have had a camera inside my house to draw on for his material. If you like him, then this is more of the same, drawing upon his observations of life and often saying the things that you daren't say out loud to your friends and family, but know you really fucking want to.

I guess Northerners must like him too.

A big section of the row right in front of me was empty (eight seats), and Micky was soon to be on stage. In troops Noel Gallagher and his small entourage, closely followed by Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster. I was surprised how short Noel Gallagher is and Rod Stewart is even shorter, especially compared to Penny, who towers over him like the honey monster.

Once the audience noticed they were there they received quite a few cheers and both stood up and waved to everyone. I was surprised that they were sat in the stools and didn't have their own box.

I'm not sure if the two were together, but Rod and Penny left by themselves, before the others.

I've never heard of him, is he one of the lefty woke comedians, if he is then I'd definitely be avoiding the geezer.

True, he's not woke but I just don't think he's funny  :unknown:

Very not woke - in fact he references lots of stuff about the world going too woke and everyone being "triggered" and upset. He intertwines stories about trans, mental health, refugees and so on in to his act.

Some of the stories are based on characterisations of the Cockney, so may get lost on Northerners. I didn't see Noel laughing as much as Rod, who jumped up and was really cheering at the end.

Got to agree, he is not funny.
When he came on the TV I used to switch channels

I like the guy and think he's funny. Off to score some sausages at Mr. Ahmed's  :D

Noel is indeed a short arse and his High Flying Birds are also worth seeing.

I think he's great, down to earth and not shy of taking the piss out of himself plus hasn't gone down the route of sanitising everything and getting woke

I think he is quite funny, from the stuff ive seen, unusually for a working class comic he doesnt pretend that the working class are wonderful.

I went to see him at Glasgow Hydro back in 2018 and he was/is class, IMO one of the best current stand up comedians

Offline Johnnyb0y

I love Micky Flanagan, so much great material, getting found out by the mrs her anniversary card is from corner shop, the consequences for young men preferring to give facials, not being the first punter in the pub, his tummy troubles in india, you slag joke on the retirees cruise, the dog licking his balls just before the girlfriend comes in joke. When he talks about his dad it reminds me of my own dad.

My OH is not so keen but that’s probably because I laugh so much at all his jokes about his Mrs.

You have Jerry Sadowitz about to go in tour, all though no dates for Glasgow, but seeming will be added

Ok then, might watch him sometime in the future.

I like Micky Flanagan and find him very funny.

According to this picture of Rod Stewart and Noel Gallagher Rod is slightly taller than Noel Gallagher. Most sources give Noel as 5'8"-5'9". Rod is believed to be 5'10". Penny Lancaster is 6'1" in bare feet and 6'4" when she's in a 3 inch heel.

Nice find  - where did you get that from?

The stats you found are at odds with the picture, Micky Flanagan is reported as being 5'9", yet he appears taller than both Noel and Rod.

Bear in mind, Rod may have once been 5'10" in his youth. He's 78 now, so has definitely shrunk due to aging, and no way is he that tall now.

From standing right next to Noel, I would say he's 5'7". Notice how much lower his shoulder height is, but he has a bigger head that makes him taller

Rod was a few seats along and my impression may have been affected by Penny standing next to him, making him look smaller.

I found the picture by typing 'Noel Gallagher and Rod Stewart' into Google and then looking at the images. It's a Facebook image.
I think Micky is more than 5'9" because I've found this picture of him stood next to Jimmy Car and Jack Whitehall who are both supposed to be around 6 foot. Micky appears to be the same height. It may be that Carr and Whitehall are less than they claim though. It's quite common for Celebrities to lie about their height. I'll take your word for it that Noel is 5'7" as you've seen him in real life and I haven't. I take your point about Rod too . At his age he's probably lost an inch or two of height.

Flanagan's last tour was shite. All he talked about was himself and how much money he has.

I was a fan before that so hopefully this new tour will restore my faith.

most stand up comics are funny when they start out, because stand up humour is the outsider , often a loser making observations about life, but once you have a few million in the bank , what is your act going to be about? you are getting more sex than frank sinatra etc An exception is pub landlord, al murray, because he is a fictional character.

I'm not a fan either. I watched him last year on tv, he was performing alongside a troupe of fit birds playing guitars, like the Robert Palmer video. What an embarrassment, he cannot move to save his life, he just looked pathetic.

I Went last night to see him and to be honest he was ok, I get him bur he was just OK

Add on he did a one and a half hour set for £40 and was gone, there was a bad reaction from the audience. Earlier this year Jimmy Carr did two and half for £33 all at the Hull Arena.

That's one of THE great music videos, cool as hell.. Actually shot by a photographer I knew, now long gone like Palmer. Sad.

What's he supposed to do once he's finished his set  :unknown:
Was the audience reaction down to not thinking his set was very good or the way it ended  :unknown:

Oh and Jimmy Carr can do it a bit cheaper as he doesn't pay tax  :hi: I'll get me coat  ;)

So I watched a bit of it on Sky mix channel last night,  funny in parts but I still think he's overrated as a comedian.  Still each to their own as they say  :unknown:
