WGs don't have 'tax free' status. Their income is taxable just the same as any other self-employed person.

That is correct.

What would definitely be the case IMO is that the present scenario where a WG can work as a WG in anoynomity if she wishes wouldnt be an option as regulation would exclude being able to do that. I dont think that aspect would suit many WGs.

Plus those WGs that dont pay tax or inform the benefits people at present and who knows how many that is and get paid in cash in at least some cases wouldnt want to start declaring in my view.

I do wonder how many WGs when giving the nitty gritty details of regulation would really think it a good idea. ;)

If the government did it properly and made it only legal to sex sex in legal brothels then they could pay the girls say £20 an hour and the punters would pay say £50 an hour, that would be good profit for the brothel and enable them to fund proper staff & security, and the girls at £20 an hour would still be earning about 3 x the wage they would otherwise earn (Stacking shelves etc) and £20 an hour is a good wage for someone withno trade, skills, qualifications or training.

Provided visiting independents was illegal then brothels would flourish on the above basis, of course they would be very unpopular with pro$$ies as they would have to pay tax, NI, and of course not be able to claim benefits  :(

James, you are living in a dream world.
Why would girls want to be prossies if they only got paid £20 an hour ----- it will never be illegal to visit Indies because the law could not be enforced.

I also wasn't sure how this model would actually work in reality - is that £20 per hour for an 8 to ten hour shift, assuming a constant stream of punters with gaps?reality is there would be quiet times, or at least gaps between clients. Assuming that rate for 8 hours a girl would take home £160 before tax and NI for having sex with at least 8 men.

Some ladies see regulation as something that could improve safety for the girls, and make it easier to report and catch those who take advantage of this grey area to exploit WGs. Rogue photographers, scam merchants on both sides and those who hurt or abuse. Many however simply aren't going to want to be on a national register.

My guess is that most girls do not want to see any form of regulation because they don't want to get involved with Inland Revenue and give up their benefits. I accept that some girls are legit but the vast majority are not ---------- especially the thousands of girls from Eastern Europe.

That is correct.

Of course, Lottie and Strawberry are honest taxpayers.

:)

Unfortunately, however, they are the exception.

The vast majority and that includes 100% of the East European and Thai girls and 100% of the part time British benefit mums  that you see so often on Adultwork, are not.

Legalisation involves Regulation, which in turn, involves Tax and National Insurance.

It is for that reason that WGs will oppose the legalisation and regulation of brothels.

WGs don't have 'tax free' status.

But as it is Cash they choose not to declare it so there is no tax paid.

Of course it won't happen. and if the only place sex could be sold was a brothel and thats where clients went and the pro$$ie had a choice of £20 an hour or minumum wage then many would pick £20 an hour  :sarcastic:

But as it is Cash they choose not to declare it so there is no tax paid.

The same used to apply to London mini-cab drivers, prior to 2001 there was no regulation so very few paid tax, after regulation they had no choice but to register with Inland Revenue.
