Having looked up various websites to see where I could find some action there were a few experiences which previous messages reinforced.
1. Budapest is a relatively safe city
In the time was was there I did not feel concerned for my safety when out late at night. However, I doubt the city is crime-free so you still would need to keep your wits about you.
2. Thai massage by the bucket-load.
There are loads of Thai massage parlours, however many of them are legit and certainly the one I visited was all above board, not a hint of a happy ending. 3. Always pay in local currency
Many places accept Euros or local currency (HUF), if given the choice pay in HUF - you'll always get a better rate. I estimate the difference was 10 to 20%.
4. Prostitution is legal but brothels are not.
I found several websites that suggested the location for the red light district. The reality, I found was there is no such thing as the police seek to prevent such areas becoming established so the areas streetwalkers operate varies. Prostitutes operate but discretely for this reason. As such, casual tourists will not notice them during the day or even at night. Because the working girls seek to blend in and look like other girls just out for the night I would not recommend approaching girls who are just hanging around. A lot of girls seem to be doing this at night, either alone or in groups and I don't think they were all on the game.
