I'm aware that private hire taxi licences  are "portable " - get your licence in, say, Bristol, and it will allow you to work in, say  Blackpool ( or wherever).

Round here  if the licence  isn't from the (truly) local authority,  then all I see is private hire cabs with "City of Wolverhampton " plates.

Why just Wolverhampton? Is the Wolverhampton  licence  easier or cheaper to get ? There must be some reason as to why.

big problem in Liverpool at the minute with drivers from Wolverhampton

I think it is because the process is easier, cheaper, less background checks from that authority

Yes, I've noticed quite a number of "City of Wolverhampton" private hire cabs in Liverpool.  What's the deal with that?

If that is the case, it makes you more wary of getting into a Wolverhampton plated private hire cab - is the driver less likely to get his licence from the *proper* local authority?

Probably have a job getting a private hire taxi in Wolverhampton as they're all in Liverpool  :dash:

Not the case up here in the north.

The cars and drivers are locally licenced

Offline Blackpool Rock

Apparently it's cheaper and quicker to register in Wolverhampton after they adopted a digital system.

Negative points are that local enforcement officers can't do anything if there is a defect on the car as an official from Wolverhampton needs to deal with  it  :dash:
Also they need to be pre booked and aren't insured if they pick you up from a taxi rank which they aren't allowed to use (In Blackpool anyway) however they are still using the ranks

That's new to me! I stand corrected.
Bloody stupid though, makes vehicle standards impossible to check

They can use Uber etc

also, some of the local taxi companies dont care where a driver has his license, they just want their settle each week

It's cheaper to license a taxi in wolverhampton.
The surrounding area taxi drivers do the same.

A side effect  of  this is the more that license through wolverhampton, it become cheaper.

did some googling round and there are big delays with Liverpool and Sefton council issuing new licences

the biggest taxi company in Liverpool, Delta, have been advising new drivers to get their plate from Wolverhampton

To do an on-the-spot check yes. But not the six monthly check. My PH vehicle is registered in Braintree, but my school contracts are in Thurrock. Every six months get a notification to book it in at the Braintree garage. Company car so have no choice as to where it's registered. With the amount of drivers they employ, wouldn't be surprised got some also using this site?

During covid no one was taking more applications.Wolverhampton carried on as it was digital. They also made it easier to obtain one.No tests like it was for me
