It very much sounds like this situation has been resolved from the OPs point of view. However, I thought I would post my personal routine for suitable anonymity both online and while punting, which would have helped the OP avoid this type of situation.
Before I continue I should mention that the level you choose to stretch to for anonymity should depend on your personal situation. If you are happily married with children and a solid job which would fire you if they knew you punted, then it makes sense to do every thing you deem necessary to avoid being put in a tight spot.
With that said, you never know what the future may hold for you, and you really lose nothing for doing you up-most to remain anonymous while online involved in punting related activities and punting itself
- While browsing AW and any other punting relating forums or activities, I use a web proxy.
- I may also use a TOR web browser if I am so inclined, depending on location or the network that I am using.
- For real peace of mind I use an entire new TOR VM which is wiped each time I shut it down
- For the casual punter, use Google Chrome's incognito
- Obviously use a pseudonym or alias when signing up to online services like AW and other websites
- Use a new purpose built email address that cannot be linked to you. Any main-stream service provider will do such as gmail or yahoo.
- Buy a new *Pay as you go* phone and SIM. I upgrade my personal phone yearly or so. In my case, I have a spare smart phone which is useful for GPS and locating where I'm going while in a punt. PAYG is important when compared to a monthly phone since you do not need to provide any form of ID to own such a SIM.
- I also have a fake UK driving license ID which I've needed to use only once when with a WG. This is usually to manipulate them into thinking I'm really open and honest and It's enabled me to gain their trust faster. I have never used it for anything important.
- I never punt with my real wallet, watch, work badge, etc. I only ever punt with a bare minimum, which includes enough for the punt (+30% for when the situation presents itself) and a special reserve fund I keep separate for emergency travel. For example, if I've been drinking on the punt too much and/or decided I need to leave pronto and I get a taxi.
If you follow these rules above, you will have no problem ditch a WG or you're entire punting career on whim. Safe and houses (n.b. not in 2007).
