When doing self-assessment recently I did not know where to claim for repayment of tax deducted in previous years, where a small investment was taxed at source.

I had done an R40 but was told to do it in self-assessment.

Any advice?

Sorry can't help you but I saw lots of tax experts in the "Do WGs earn too much/Do WGs pay tax" type threads. Some of them might be able to help.

I would suggest you go to the gov.uk/self assessment website first to sort out your refund, then come back to UKP afterwards for advice on how to spend it.

Get in touch with your local Conservative mp. They probably know more about tax evasion. Sorry I meant to say they will be able to give you tax advice
