The Orthodox Church uses the Julian calendar, which has Christmas day on 7th Jan and New Year on 14th Jan.  It is therefore not unusual for EE SPs to take time off at this time of year, indeed several EE SPs I have known over the years have regularly disappeared between Christmas and mid January.   One SP I know celebrates the Western Christmas with her friends in London, then celebrates the Eastern Christmas with her family back home.  If a higher than usual number of SPs are taking time off, it would follow that those SPs still working will be busier than usual.
