What is acceptable when it comes to banter, not necessarily between mates but strangers as well. Was in one of my local watering holes this evening, group across from me indulging in so called "banter", after a while it turned very nasty and well let's just say they were asked to leave by the bar staff.

Is it a case of being thick skinned, go with the flow or what?

Depends on surroundings. Family setting ? Males only ? Age of participants ? Local culture ? Rugby friends ?
Lots of variables  :unknown:

Banter is fine when everyone can give and take, unfortunately to many who can give but get upset when getting it back. Friend of mine is a great wind up merchant but as soon as he gets it back becomes aggressive and throws a strop.

Coming from Ulster myself and working with a load of guys from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland,  the banter between us flows thick and fast some days. I often see the local English lads and indeed the EU lads, staring at us waiting for it all to kick off, when indeed,  to coin a phrase, "Its all a bit of craic" 😅😅

That's a good answer and my experience with people over the years.

Having lived in Belfast for a number of years, I know exactly what you mean. The sense of humour in Ulster does take some getting used to.

Love a bit of banter.
Can’t stand people who give it but can’t take it.

When it comes to sex, us guys can boast, about our exploits, but in my work place a few years back, we had this female colleague.  When it came to talking about sex, she had one perverted mind, and this rattled a few guys, and they were taken aback by what she said

Banter is fun. Banter is not mean-spirited though.
