Are there not free apps that do all of this, thereby negating the need for indicator boards and texts?

you can track most buses through  External Link/Members Only

It's done through the bus ticket machines tracking on the internet
Besides which most companies can track their own buses through their own app

if I ever decide to develop my own app it’ll be very useful,

You would be throwing money and time down the drain, as there are loads of apps already in use. Probably better to spend that money on getting a smart phone  ;)

Have you not heard of Google Maps, they have had live bus and train data for about 15 years. Uber integrated a long time ago too. There's TFL Go as well. I didn't realise people weren't aware of such a technological advancements  :unknown:

It is therefore highly unlikely that the indicator boards will ever be repaired.

Crawled along at 5mph in a 40 zone behind 3 cycles with 5 youth riders - two of them had  mates on the handle bars

The road is wide enough to safely pass an ordinary cyclist even if a car is coming the other way but the passengers had their legs spread to avoid the rotating wheel and the bike was unstable veering out into the road

Yet in case of  a collision the car driver inevitably would be held liable.even though the illegal 2 on a bike was the real cause

People playing music on public transport.

People playing music on the beach.  If I'm lying on the beach, I want to read, I don't want to hear someone else's fucknig stupid idea of music, always tinny from a distance too, which then prevents me from being able to concentrate to read.  There must be a legal loop-hole in this scenario to be able to just shoot them in the face, isn't there?  And their fucking stero too.

People playing music in public areas unless it’s a radio station with different songs on but when they play shit and loud too no consideration at all, then busses  fuck sake just buy some head phones they are not expensive I had some from Temu and they are ok not great but no tinny sound cost few pounds.
Annoys me when they sit at back of bus with their shit rap music even worse when they are trying to rap along too, then also even vaping on the bus I mean can’t you wait for a fag/vape until you get off.

I’m becoming increasingly irritated by the staff at the supermarket that are picking the home delivery orders and plonking their oversized trollies in the middle of the aisles as you try to do your shop.  Seriously, have some awareness of how busy the shop is and stop getting in the fucking way.

Contacting Prossies using WhatsApp can be really beneficial when compared to standard text messages as you get the blue tick when someone reads the message, this can be really important when a girl isn't working and not reading messages so you can move on if a message goes unread for a few hours etc

That is until someone changes their settings to stop the tick turning blue  :dash: :diablo:

Android to Android SMS has the same tick function as WhatsApp.

As you say though, it doesn't help if they turn that functionality off  :dash:

Just posted this on the WC thread but it's also worth a mention here too

I remember posting somewhere on another thread possibly when Scotland qualified about how you'd relentlessly get all manner of cunt on the TV parroting "No Scotland, No Party"

Sure enough it's fucking started  :dash:

Woke up this morning feeling a bit groggy after a night out and put the BBC TV news on and low and behold when the sport section came on all I could hear were what sounded like a load of pissed up Jocks all droning out the phrase in a really boring monotone way that sounded like a haggis being tortured.

The presenter then proceeded to interview people including a young lad who seemed a bit like a rabbit in the headlights, he'd obviously been pre primed to say "No Scotland, No Party" at the end but couldn't remember it until the presenter started prompting him and he came out with it.

If it's not already bad enough then FFS don't enourage people too  :diablo:

Travelling on the Motorway a couple of weeks ago and there's an accident a few miles ahead requiring the road to be cleared and indeed for the traffic to be stopped to clear it
4 lane section with no hard shoulder as i recall and a few miles before the accident the overhead signs clearly warned of an accident and there was a big red cross over the 4th lane along with arrows showing people they needed to get over into the 1st 3 lanes

I and indeed most others duly complied in the next few hundred metres or half mile until the traffic continued to slow and finally grind to a halt
Then you look in the mirror and see the usual stream of cars who have ignored the signs and seem to think that their time is more important than other peoples so they continue to drive down the outside until they reach the end
As expected it's the usual suspects comprising of at least 50% German motors BMW's; Audi's and Mercs along with a few random others and a healthy sprinkling of vans plus an articulated lorry, yes a fucking Artic who shouldn't even be in the 4th lane to begin with (admittedly a foreign plate so perhaps unaware but even so)

There's also a stream of emergency vehicles trying to get through and using the "Closed" 4th lane to do so as there's no hard shoulder however they're all being hampered by the selfish cunts
I did also watch as some cunt in a Beemer drove down the 4th lane at 30-40MPH with a blue light emergency vehicle behind him, he eventually found a gap and pulled in letting the emergency vehicle through and then promptly pulled back out into the 4th lane and continued jumping the queue, CUNT  :diablo:

I really think they need to find a way to crack down on this shit, obviously the people on the ground are there to deal with the situation and give emergency help so need to do that rather than managing these rule breakers but i'm sure that often more than enough officers turn up at the scene or get there once it's under control so are surplus to requirements.

IMO they should then turn their attention to nicking these fuckers, in a hurry sir, i'll tell you what i'm going to let you through to the front, see that other police car over there, what I need you to do is go and park behind him at which point he's going to give you a ticket and hold you for at least 30 minutes while he processes everything

I'm sure they could actually make good use of all these fucking cameras they seem to have everywhere to identify vehicles breaking the rules instead of just nicking people going a few MPH over the limit, perhaps they already do I don't know but I seriously doubt it  :unknown:

To be honest if you are a driver it's quite worrying that you don't know that driving in a lane with a red cross above it is illegal.

£100 fine and 3 penalty points.

The problem isn't people cutting in at the last minute, it's the issue people have with their ego.

They don't want to let someone get past THEM.

In Germany they have a road traffic regulation, roughly translated it's called the"zipper". The regulations require that you drive to the end of the lane where they merge, then you allow lanes to merge one by one alternately. German drivers are familiar with the rule and abide by it.

Studies have shown that this is 15 - 20% more efficient than slowing down to join the other lane before the merge point.

Surprisingly, we have an almost identical rule 134 of the Highway code, but British drivers seem oblivious to the concept of "merging in turn". It's more the rule of "it's my space and I'm not letting you in".

Agree with you in principle though obviously not in this exact case (red cross above the lane). But when people insist on pulling in and queuing half a mile before the lane closes I happily drive right past all the self righteous bastards and merge at the end. Same at roundabouts where there are two lanes and everyone going straight queues up in the left lane I'll happily drive past them and go straight.

I don't think my time is more important than theirs particularly but at the same time I really don't see why I should have to wait for longer than I have to because of some unwritten supposed rule that you don't use a perfectly serviceable lane. If you don't like people driving past fully utilise all available lanes and no-one will be able to. Again I know the OP is not talking about the scenarios I mention so doesn't apply here. Maybe I should have put it in the things that make you happy thread lol

Looks to me that they want a cull but don’t want to be seen to be the ones making the decision, their evidence based advice is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that paper.

Their numbers have been declining for quite a while.

I think it's like a lot of things, sometimes the things us humans do to "preserve" wildlife often end up causing different issues. For example we have had massive success in "managing" the recovery of the native deer population. It's been so successful that we are having to cull them due to over population and damage to other species.

A week ago a big van broke down (apparently) right at the junction from the estate where I live onto the (busy) main road.
A few hours later DVLA came along and clamped it as untaxed.  Subsequently,  it turns out that not only was it untaxed,  it was  uninsured as well.

My neighbour reports it to the police (who (supposedly) impound uninsured  vehicles) as its a real obstruction where it is.  A few days later its still there. It seems the police can't remove it while its got the DVLA clamp in place. They made two appointments with DVLA for someone to come along and remove the clamp so they can remove the van and each time the DVLA bod failed  to show up.

Meantime we all have to creep cautiously past it......

Three points here
1) There's already been a 90% reduction in the last 20 years with France buying a lot for meat
2) Many of the remaining ponies aren't pure Dartmoors anyway but are in fact crossbreeds
3) Sheep are the main problem on moorland - there's too many of them, grazing plants too closely and so killing them off with just gorse and bracken taking over.

No need to encourage the handful of rabid francophobes on here. According to AI,
'Most Dartmoor ponies are not sold to France for meat. While a historical export market to Europe exists for meat, the vast majority of culled or excess hill ponies are either processed locally for pet food (such as big cat feed at zoos), sold as pets or riding ponies, or used in conservation meat schemes within the UK'

I've always relied on Caller Ident to decide whether or not to respond to a phone call. However, today the following warning was emailed to me today via eCops :

'Fraud alert: Scam calls using ‘spoofed’ phone numbers
City of London Police is urging the public to be sure of who they are talking to following a spike in reports of calls from ‘spoofed’ phone numbers.

Criminals use ‘spoofing’ software to intentionally cover up their real caller ID and instead, mirror the phone number of a legitimate organisation. They do this to make it appear that calls or text messages are coming from a trusted organisation like the police, banks or government agencies.

These scam calls may be automated, or from a real person. Their main goal is to trick you into sharing personal information or to transfer money.'

Nice glossy leaflet from Royal Mail

Hidden Image/Members Only

They are going to provide a better service - great

by only delivering 2nd class post on alternate weekdays !  and of course not on Saturdays

Now they haven't  specified what that means Mon Wed Fri then next week just Tues and Thurs ?  or just Tues & Thurs every week ?

So some (?all?)  weeks only 2 delivery days ??  How in hell is that a better service ??

Already sick hearing about red weather warnings, blah, blah, blah.

We get a few days of nice summer weather and the media en masse wants to declare a national emergency.

Yeah it's been pissing me off for years how they constantly sensationalise everything to do with the weather

I'm not denying climate change and agree that it's happening and that some / all / the majority of this is down to man made influences (And that as a planet we need to do things to stop it) but i'm switched off about it due to the way in which it's reported.

We had depending where you are in the country 3 days - 1 week of decent weather 3 or 4 weeks ago, it was hot but they had to report it by sensationalising it as being "This hot" and "It's still only spring"
Using the Meteorological Seasons Spring ends on the 31st May and Summer starts on the 1st June, we were in the last week of May so only just still spring but it's as if it had been a week later then it would have been OK / Normal / Acceptable, it's not that someone flicks a fucking switch at midnight on the 31st May / 1st June  :dash:

And then you have the definition of a heatwave which even varies depending where you are in the country but essentially 3 consecutive days where the heat stays above  the prescribed temperature.
We've had it recently where it was hot and triggered a heatwave definition for a few days but then the temperature dropped for a day or two before going back up and going into heatwave territory again

Imagine the scenario where it's heatwave hot for 3 or 4 days then cools for 1 or 2 days before heating up again for 3 or 4 days cools for 1 or 2 days and goes hot again
Obviously over around a 2 week period this gets reported as "We've had 3 heatwaves already" whereas if it had been heatwave hot constantly for the full 2 weeks then it'd only be one but despite the scenario being not as bad if you have a couple of periods of respite it's more sensational to report it as 3 heatwaves.
Obviously though if it was hot for 2 weeks solid it would then be reported as a heatwave with no respite  :dash:

The other thing here is that the heat reported is stated as "Above average" however what they fail to tell anyone is that temperature recording only started in 1884 (Official nationwide Met office numbers) which coincided with a particularly unusually cold period or "Mini Ice Age" as it's sometimes dubbed therefore this is always going to skew the results slightly  :diablo:

Yep, this pisses me off. How on earth I've managed to survive for more than half a century without all this advice and come to no harm is a mystery. The BBC seem to have turned themselves into some kind of health advisory service.

So I am something of a contrarian on climate. The Earth is going through a warming phase, not denying that, but I think there is over attribution of this warming to man made factors when there are many other factors at play. Also, the warming is not necessarily even a bad thing, the planet has been warmer in the past without humanity ending, CO2 is making the planet greener and more fertile, and more people die due to cold than heat.

All that said, my beef with the media today is that they are being alarmist and branding a week or two of nice weather as abnormal and making ridiculous predictions about the future (regularly having temperatures over 45 degrees in UK) based on poor quality models and dodgy data.  We get lurid stories about record temperatures using measurements from Class 5 locations e.g. halfway down a runway or next to the greenhouses at Kew, when the reality is we’re a couple of degrees cooler.

We had stories summer of '22 about the UK hitting 40 degrees, it’s been referenced several times the last few days and that we should be expecting this to be the new normal.  Reality is that the Uk didn’t hit 40 degrees before, that reading was taken halfway down a runway a minute after a jet took off, the actual peak temperature that day was 38.5, fucking hot but not a record.

And as for all the shrill, don’t travel, don’t go to work nonsense - keep hydrated and wear a hat and enjoy the fucking weather, it’ll be gone soon enough.
