Can't lie thought it was a bit of an overreaction that he got let go but I understand why. Over 2 decades of work for a company gone in less than 1 minute due to a "crude" joke which was a quote from a movie I think.

I'm always weary of jumping into conclusions or taking "news" at face value.

In most companies there are people who are hated by everyone and specially by higher management. They can't wait for the hated employee to trip up and use whatever excuse to get rid of them.

I'm not saying that's what happened here but company politics are more complicated than that.  It's easier to hide real reasons behind "woke" or "PC" accusations because they distract ordinary people from real issues.

If I run an extremely successful company and one of my most valuable executives made a slip up like that I would make damn sure I did everything to keep them in the company and make them apologise and grovel but wouldn't get rid of them.

If I hated the arsehole and couldn't find a (legal) way to get rid of them I'd jump at the first slip up and use it as excuse. Blame it all on woke/pc and watch the media and anti-pc people frothing at the mouth and get the internet all riled up with "PC brigade going mad" on one side and woke warriors on the other. Both sides flooding twitter/internet with their own views about it. Meanwhile those in the know laughing knowing the real reason behind it all.

Then again, maybe I'm just a really sceptical bastard and this is really the PC brigade going mad, etc. etc.

Good luck with that. Knowing Apple there will be a clause in his contract long the lines “any behaviour that reflects badly on the company is subject to following sanctions…”.

Yes, he might win, but probably wouldn’t and danger of attempting to fight it, is that it might make him toxic in eyes of other possible employers. And  Apple might well have given him some sweeteners to leave that would be contingent on him signing away right to sue.

Basically any firm that can shaft the Beatles (over the Apple logo) must be “lawyered up”.

Agree with earlier suggestion that Apple were looking for any excuse to get rid of him. The guy actually came over as a pleasant geezer, making an obvious joke….the way he put it over my reaction was that he was actually poking fun at himself.
