Even Vila Mimosa girls are now charging 40R (£15) for 30mins. Outrageous! ;-)
There's some great Brazilian girls in the UK, but to get the full buzz you want to have them in Brasil, preferably Rio, which is the most mental, crazy, party-fuelled, outrageous, presumptuous, challenging, daring, unbelievable city in Brasil. But the currency there is not only strong, the economy is improving. Girls don't play by western rules either.
My personal advice (which most people will ignore), is go for an absolute minimum of two weeks, arrive with cabin baggage only that you can sling over one shoulder, spend half a day visiting Copa apartments rented by a reputable agency before choosing one, padlock your rucksack to the furniture or pipes (saves on a room safe), and have fun.
Read ISG before going till it comes out of your ears then read it again. Make copious notes. Print all of Sperto's maps and price/ratings lists. Read the Bubba guide (more conservative, but the best fast intro you can use as reference). Only pay for anything in local currency. Only pay afterwards except in Vila Mimosa and the small 1R-a-minute termas that expect money first. If a 'freelancer' asks for money first, she's on the con, show her the door, call the apartment's security if necessary (all apartments have security of varying standards of helpfulness). Dress local (you just came cabin baggage, remember?) - you can get all you need from a central market outside the Uruguiana metro station and a complete outfit will only charge you a few bucks. Learn at least a few words of Porto and LISTEN. 24/7.listen with your ears, your eyes, and every pore of your body. Use 360 degree vision. Learn how to be Brasilian. If it's your first time, you will overpay, simple. But these points will mean you overpay less, stay safer, relax more and enjoy. Do not think you can out-think Brasilians. They will let you think you are a superior westerner while they run rings round you twice before you blink - their culture is different in every possible way, so learning fast is good! For your first few days have a plan. It might include one visit to a top terma like 4x4 just for the luxury experience. Then maybe a middle range one for about £30. Then a nice safe shitty one just to experience a 40p-a-minute shag with a gorgeous woman (you have to sift thru them, but at somewhere like BA85 it's not hard. Note: surroundings might be dirty, but girls are generally immaculate and have high standards of hygiene. (I've just thought - if you do all those in one day, maybe start with a mid-range like Bel Prazer, them see how you cope with BA85, then treat yourself to a meal before being pampered on planet 4x4.) All these are in city centre walking distance of each other and a metro ride from Copa.
Photos can be negotiated in any if these places but it depends on the individual girl.
First evening, wander down to Balcony and enjoy being a gringo as the girls try to bargain with you. If you take one, remember, it's payment afterwards. Be clear beforehand whether it's short time, all night (define all night - I expect a shag when I wake up at a time the shops are opening). Always stick minutely to your end of the deal. Be clear if you want extras like A. Copa is the headiest part of Rio. It is also where you will pay thru the nose. But it can be like Disneyland. I find girls' personalities change in Copa. They know it's their territory to play the whore, to charm and beguile the tourist. It's a friendly (usually) battle of wits and charm and double-bluff. Enjoy the ride and hold on to your wallet. In fact, leave your wallet at home. Carry money the Brasilian way. If you have several notes in your pocket, slip a rubber band around the short side and fold them in half. Have one pocket for money you are about to spend and people can see ("oh dear, that's all I have), and another pocket or a hidden pocket for bigger bills. Only carry what you intend to need. Centro (4x4 etc) is a business district and generally safe, but the same does not go for Copa. Yet Copa is a more fun place to stay than Centro and totally geared to tourists. The large number of people will at least speak some English.
After you've got acclimatised and can distinguish a bit between 'poor' and 'dangerous' you will maybe want to visit Vila Mimosa. Just cos it's there (and might not be one day). Same rules as Copa apply except prices are fixed and it is generally safe - much safer than it looks at first sight. The girls, in this 500-strong ho village, are all independent but usually attached to a particular bar. You have to spend time to find gems, but that's not hard given the party atmosphere and cheap beer (warning: this is NOT a place to get drunk - pace yourself. Also, do NOT get into an argument with Brasilians). VM is open 24/7 including holidays. Trains run till about midnight, buses run all night. Your first trip will probably take you on a Friday or Saturday at about 5 or 6 o'clock and you will get the full spectacle.
Finally don't waste your trip to Rio by only doing hookers and the beach. Visit Sugar Loaf, Corcovado, Rio Sul shopping, the Botanics, maybe a trip across the harbour to Niteroi. Do a football match. Watch some samba. Hang out with some regular Cariocas at the Botafogo art cinemas and juice bars. Take a run (or a paddle) around (lake) Lagoa. Visit the famous spots of Ipanena and see the posh birds sunning themselves. Experience some samba at Samba City. This is a dream city with some of the most beautiful people in the world. Don't spoil the opportunity by seeing it only thru whore-monger specs.
