Nice one - and nicely laid out. Shame about the rather ugly ho's.

On the wg side, it needs a supplement to cover the cheap 1R a minute massagens in Centro and the Vila Mimosa set-up north-east of Centro. VM is an institution in itself- 24/7 party pretty well. But they want to tear it down for the Olympics or Footie whatever the fuck they're having in a year or two lol. If you go ISG, pick up Sperto's maps and guides - they are up to date and completely non-fluffy (Sirmarjalot provides a handy link to BitchMaps which is handy in some respects, but much of the info there is out of date). There's also something called Bubba's Guide on ISG, which is a more comprehensive guide to everything you need to know when hitting Rio for the first few times. It ignores Carnaval and has a penchant for upmarket places over the likes of Vila Mimosa and the 1R a minute shagshacks, but is the best all-round guide you can get and also includes basic essentials like transport and renting apartments or using hotels (His taste in restaurants leaves the odd thing to be desired IMO but otherwise good.)

Incidentally, for anyone put off by the idea of a 1R a minute shag, the surroundings are sometimes (not always - BA85 every floor except 2nd floor now an exception) poor and less than tasteful, but pick the girls carefully and they are immaculate, washed, and fresh (Brazilians have good sense of hygiene and also good safe-sex awareness.) The ones in BA85 may grab your balls fro a feel as you go from floor to floor. The ones on Uruguiana 24 will do the same but many are topless as well, gyrating to heavy Brazilian funk pouring out of every jukebox.

For anyone who has ever been to Japan and had that 'Shit I'm on another planet - and it's kinda awesome' feeling, South America and Brasil especially is rather like that. Not like Japan. Just like different to anything else you could imagine. Remember Rio is a big city - roughly the size of London. The more research you can do before going the more you will be able to enjoy it. Unlike many pussy mongering spots worldwide, the cultural colours are what bring many back. Carnaval (the biggest party in the world, literally), the diversity of music and dances, the amazing sense of Brazilian fun and unique etiquette, the incredible sights (Sugar Loaf is for my money more awesome than that block of CristoConcrete - but Rio is a city of amazing visual impact - it's built on strange shaped hills, has 32 beaches, an inland lagoon, national rainforest parks, the list goes on.)

It's also not for the feint hearted. If you get into bother, you have to do things Brazilian style or get screwed. Western 'rules' don't really apply, whether it's banking, law and order, contracts, timekeeping or lurve!

Yes, I do struggle to understand why anyone would sit on a plane for 12 hours to meet ladies like that. ????????

JRC - you know full well ther are some real stunners in Rio - the post just showed some of the not-so-good.
My own problem is lack of the local language when in central and south America.

It seems that there are dark skinned girls and light skinned girls ------ Miss Brazil 2010 is a good example of the stunners you refer to.
I bet stunners want London prices ------or more.

The ones that want top prices are beautifully waxed, nice make up, gorgeous sheets, fancy manners, know how to put on an act that Westerners often like, speak some English, and more generally on tap. But if you want a traditional playboy centrefold type, BsAs is probably a better bet to be honest. Brazilian stunners from the countryside or for whatever reason hang out in the places where their mates are very often. You have to search harder among the uglies. But price is no guide to beauty - just the ease of finding something that look acceptable. Language is not the barrier you would expect if you are good with body language - they use it a lot, and instinctively. It is one of the most varied cultures I have seen, if not the most, in terms of every skin colour, every body shape.

Go for it. Mainstream Rio is getting harder for punters though.

I want to visit Brazil, I like the wide ethnic diversity of the ladies, yes I know I'm an anthropologist lol, and have had good/wild sessions with Brazilian ladies here In UK.

I got very near to booking but found the hotels far too expensive, maybe it is just Rio, maybe I was being too fussy but decent hotels were showing at £80-£100 a night -------- outside my budget.
Flights seem to be £600-£650.

Brazil is a big leap if it's your first time to South America. You are best going for at least 10-14 days to make it worth the hassle. Hotels in Copa tend to be pricey but check ISG for deals. The usual route is to hire an apartment for your stay there, which is much cheaper and 100% girl-friendly. The best decent quality hotels, GF and reasonably priced that I know personally are the two Ibis ones in Centro. But you dont have the glamour of the beaches of Copa or Ipanema - the beach is a metro/bus/cab-ride away.

Yes Termas are similar to the German fkk/saunaclubs.

Really. True you will on average get better looking girls in the expensive termas - which in today's currency can cost you hundreds of £££, but the best gems I've had over the years have been non-terma.

On your travels generally, you maybe missed the nicest part of Blue Rock by not trying the floating bar. Not the model-look girls but all the girls behind the bar there can be barfined, and you wouldn't have to wait for the main road bars to open.

Good luck with your blog.

Even Vila Mimosa girls are now charging 40R (£15) for 30mins. Outrageous! ;-)

There's some great Brazilian girls in the UK, but to get the full buzz you want to have them in Brasil, preferably Rio, which is the most mental, crazy, party-fuelled, outrageous, presumptuous, challenging, daring, unbelievable city in Brasil. But the currency there is not only strong, the economy is improving. Girls don't play by western rules either.

My personal advice (which most people will ignore), is go for an absolute minimum of two weeks, arrive with cabin baggage only that you can sling over one shoulder, spend half a day visiting Copa apartments rented by a reputable agency before choosing one, padlock your rucksack to the furniture or pipes (saves on a room safe), and have fun.

Read ISG before going till it comes out of your ears then read it again. Make copious notes. Print all of Sperto's maps and price/ratings lists. Read the Bubba guide (more conservative, but the best fast intro you can use as reference). Only pay for anything in local currency. Only pay afterwards except in Vila Mimosa and the small 1R-a-minute termas that expect money first. If a 'freelancer' asks for money first, she's on the con, show her the door, call the apartment's security if necessary (all apartments have security of varying standards of helpfulness). Dress local (you just came cabin baggage, remember?) - you can get all you need from a central market outside the Uruguiana metro station and a complete outfit will only charge you a few bucks. Learn at least a few words of Porto and LISTEN. 24/7.listen with your ears, your eyes, and every pore of your body. Use 360 degree vision. Learn how to be Brasilian. If it's your first time, you will overpay, simple. But these points will mean you overpay less, stay safer, relax more and enjoy. Do not think you can out-think Brasilians. They will let you think you are a superior westerner while they run rings round you twice before you blink - their culture is different in every possible way, so learning fast is good! For your first few days have a plan. It might include one visit to a top terma like 4x4 just for the luxury experience. Then maybe a middle range one for about £30. Then a nice safe shitty one just to experience a 40p-a-minute shag with a gorgeous woman (you have to sift thru them, but at somewhere like BA85 it's not hard. Note: surroundings might be dirty, but girls are generally immaculate and have high standards of hygiene. (I've just thought - if you do all those in one day, maybe start with a mid-range like Bel Prazer, them see how you cope with BA85, then treat yourself to a meal before being pampered on planet 4x4.) All these are in city centre walking distance of each other and a metro ride from Copa.

Photos can be negotiated in any if these places but it depends on the individual girl.

First evening, wander down to Balcony and enjoy being a gringo as the girls try to bargain with you. If you take one, remember, it's payment afterwards. Be clear beforehand whether it's short time, all night (define all night - I expect a shag when I wake up at a time the shops are opening). Always stick minutely to your end of the deal. Be clear if you want extras like A. Copa is the headiest part of Rio. It is also where you will pay thru the nose. But it can be like Disneyland. I find girls' personalities change in Copa. They know it's their territory to play the whore, to charm and beguile the tourist. It's a friendly (usually) battle of wits and charm and double-bluff. Enjoy the ride and hold on to your wallet. In fact, leave your wallet at home. Carry money the Brasilian way. If you have several notes in your pocket, slip a rubber band around the short side and fold them in half. Have one pocket for money you are about to spend and people can see ("oh dear, that's all I have), and another pocket or a hidden pocket for bigger bills. Only carry what you intend to need. Centro (4x4 etc) is a business district and generally safe, but the same does not go for Copa. Yet Copa is a more fun place to stay than Centro and totally geared to tourists. The large number of people will at least speak some English.

After you've got acclimatised and can distinguish a bit between 'poor' and 'dangerous' you will maybe want to visit Vila Mimosa. Just cos it's there (and might not be one day). Same rules as Copa apply except prices are fixed and it is generally safe - much safer than it looks at first sight. The girls, in this 500-strong ho village, are all independent but usually attached to a particular bar. You have to spend time to find gems, but that's not hard given the party atmosphere and cheap beer (warning: this is NOT a place to get drunk - pace yourself. Also, do NOT get into an argument with Brasilians). VM is open 24/7 including holidays. Trains run till about midnight, buses run all night. Your first trip will probably take you on a Friday or Saturday at about 5 or 6 o'clock and you will get the full spectacle.

Finally don't waste your trip to Rio by only doing hookers and the beach. Visit Sugar Loaf, Corcovado, Rio Sul shopping, the Botanics, maybe a trip across the harbour to Niteroi. Do a football match. Watch some samba. Hang out with some regular Cariocas at the Botafogo art cinemas and juice bars. Take a run (or a paddle) around (lake) Lagoa. Visit the famous spots of Ipanena and see the posh birds sunning themselves. Experience some samba at Samba City. This is a dream city with some of the most beautiful people in the world. Don't spoil the opportunity by seeing it only thru whore-monger specs.

Enjoy!!
