Her father was one of the Enigma superbrains who worked on deciphering German secrets at Bletchley Park and went on to be professor og German at Melbourne University whilst her maternal grandfather was Max Born, the Nobel prize winning atomic physicist who could be viewed as a contributor to the creation of the atomic bomb. A secular German Jew he fled Germany to England to escape the holocaust. A sobering thought that OJN would have been a candidate for Auschwitz on account of her Jewish heritage had things transpired differently.

Born in Cambridge, she was technically 'one of ours'. But all said, a truly lovely person, taken all too soon.

Always knew she was English but wasn't aware of her family background.  That's interesting to know. She also represented the UK in the 1974 Eurovision song contest where she finished 4th. (won by Abba's Waterloo)
