Then he disappeared up his arse playing "club bangers" i.e utter shit all the time and was just unlistenable.

He didn't cover my type of music but I had Radio 1 on a lot in the evenings during the 2000s so heard a lot of Westwood. I grew to like him over the years. He was a twat but I think he took the piss out of himself a bit as well so I found him funny. I remember he took part in Radio 1's "Sunday Surgery" which was a help line where listeners called up to discuss their problems and he was quite funny on that. I recall a young lad phoned up saying he was nervous about sleeping with his girlfriend for the first time so the DJs gave some advice and Westwood added "Remember, you got to wrap it up before you slap it up" which was very sensible advice. He seemed to have a lot of clout with the big rap names in the US as well. Will add usual and obvious disclaimer that any sexual misconduct he had carried out is disgraceful.

Pretty sure "wrap it up before you slap it up" was used on a TV ad campaign. Could be wrong on that though.

Not really a wannabe when he was arguably the most famous UK-born Hip Hop DJ for most of the 90s and the early 00s. The guy might be a twat and an abuser of women, but that doesn't mean he had a failed career and the whole white guy talking black, he did it years before Ali G and many people do it unironically now, it was gimmick in 1994 and his USP, yes it was annoying and it still is, but it made him widely recognised and a distinctive voice when most Radio 1 DJs were either the old guard or wacky presenters like Chris Evans.

I remember watching Westwood live as one of the warmup acts at a concert I went to. This was in 2001 I think and even then people started throwing bottles at him when he started his set again (main act was late). That happened after about an hour of everyone telling him to F-off!

Different times, we now live in the social media/metoo era now. Westwood like many probably abused his power of fame so there's a few skeletons in his closet.

Today if you are Rich/famous you need to be careful how you interact with women behind closed doors.

I can easily understand someone strongly denying their alleged wrong doing when there is but one accuser. The accuser may just be bitter and out for revenge etc.

However,  when, as in this case, seven or eight different women accuse him  the 'strenuous denials' seem a tad unlikely.  possibly there is some kind of collusion  between them all,  but I doubt it.

But to say his rap career was fake is very ignorant, he may be the son of a vicar, but he spent years before joining the BBC flying back and forth to America putting in serious leg work meeting all the big rappers before they were even famous in America, he knew all the producers over there and was the key to acts trying to break international, remember before the Internet the radio was basically the only way to reach mass audiences.  Once on the BBC he would even broadcast his show from some of the American studios of big name producers.

He was also quite business savvy, because he wasn't an employee of BBC, he produced his show by his own firm and just sold each show to them, his company also sold the Chris goldfinger reggae dance hall show to the BBC

A lot of artists were played 1st by him, JayZ, Kanye, Wu tang etc.
Westwood had the monopoly on A list rappers and groups and certainly was seen as the stepping stone for breaking the UK and Europe. The amount of times you'll see him thanked in album credits shows how important he was seen.

If true then he's a disgrace and damaged his legacy completely.
