Your toughest problem is going to be actually cancelling it,they don't make it easy.

If you do cancel it, don't open any letters from them, unless wearing a hazmat suit.

It's been banned for several years on security grounds from all USA federal sites.

Widely believed to be backdoored after Eugene's son was mysteriously kidnapped then released without ransom a few years back. It was assumed to be the FSB blackmailing him to provide access, something he always previously publicly refused. Never been proved either way.

Blimey,  Lada, a classic car for £4200, they are taking the piss surely. Weren't the import of them banned years ago because they would never pass the exhaust emissions test back then. They always used to joke that Lada's had good heated rear screens so that your hands were kept warm when you pushed them in the winter  :D

Not at all, so many were exported when they got into banger age/territory. they are very scarce in the UK, like that one being imported to feed the market.

The Lada Niva, is very much in demand, a nice low miles one I tried to buy at auction about 4 years ago sold for 14k if my memory is correct, it was def far more than the 5k limit I had set, first bid was higher than that.

Rarity, power, quirkiness, condition, miles, history or A Ford Blue oval, are the usual things that deem a car a classic, any 3 of them together is enough.

I just don't get this thread.

You want to increase your cyber security. OK. I understand that.

So you CHOOSE to buy from a country with a long record of corruption and cyber-crime. Now I am baffled.

A lot of people bought Kaspersky at one time or other. Most never thought about whether it was Russian. You could buy McAfee, Norton/Symantec and worry that everything is going into Big Data. Or just worry about them fucking up your computer cos that's what anti-virus programmes often do by their very nature. I've fought with all three in the old days: then moved to Apple.

Russia probably wasn't bugging people's computers with their anti-virus programs when Kaspersky was launched but if, like me, you feel wary, then just don't download all the updates. In fact it might be best to uninstall it. But if you have a paid version that can be an operation in itself. (paid versions are harder to remove than the free ones). Check online for best ways to remove it completely.

Here's the Reuters blurb:
Quote
BERLIN, March 15 (Reuters) - Germany's cyber security agency on Tuesday warned users of an anti-virus software developed by Moscow-based Kaspersky Lab that it poses a serious risk of a successful hacking attack.

The BSI agency said that the Russia-based cyber-security company could be coerced by Russian government agents to hack IT systems abroad or agents could clandestinely use its technology to launch cyberattacks without its knowledge.

Kaspersky said in a statement it was a privately-managed company with no ties to the Russian government. It said that the warning by BSI was politically motivated, adding it was in contact with the BSI to clarify the matter.

The BSI warning comes as Russia's invasion of Ukraine escalates with the Russian army's shelling of the capital of Ukraine.

The BSI said that German companies as well as government agencies that manage critical infrastructure were particularly at risk of a hacking attack.
