So, siting on sofa, flicking between here and research on a car I found today, the dog jumps up and there is a light rattle on the letterbox. Go to the door and boy they legged it out the close quick.

There on the floor is an envelope, sealed with red lipstick kisses on the flap, card written in red with drawn hearts, couple of verses, professing their love. I have not got a clue.

They know me well enough though, the petrol head, because inside was a red heart shaped car air freshener, or maybe they are trying to tell me something  :D
Handy though, I got a new, to me, car today, it will be hanging over the mirror in the morning.

Must be 45 years since I had one of these ffs, I don,t know what to make of it. :D

Happy Punting Valentines,

Unsurprising it was hand delivered given the inflation on stamps these days  :D

Maybe it's the old girl from next door :sarcastic:

Maybe ! it's from the car dealership / garage you bought the car from ?  :)

Ask on facebook if anyone has sent you a card ?  :unknown:

P.S. I haven't received any "yet".

Def. not the dealership, I get lots of cars from them, but only trade in cars they do not want.

The old girl next door is too old, and living at her daughters at the moment and whoever put it in the door could sprint.

I do not use facebook, and it was not the wife, I called her and she was at home.

So if it was an air freshener its someone who has got close enough to know you have bad body stink?

New barcoded stamps are being introduced next month.

We will still be allowed to use current stamps for another year but from March 2023 the current stamps will be obsolete and not allowed.

This means if you're sitting on a stash of stamps today, you need to use them in next 12 months. This only applies to definitive stamps (ie plain ordinary ones) it doesn't apply to commemorative stamps, say Christmas ones or The Rolling Stones ones currently onsale.

I mention this here as I'm an anoraky type who normally buys a bundle of stamps every March before they jack the prices up in April.... I'll have to make sure I get barcoded ones this year.

Lastly, from next year there will be a mechanism to swap old obsolete stamps for new ones but I believe that will be a fiddly process and will probably only endure for a limited period.

Christmas stamps are definitive stamps. They will be barcoded in the future and the rules for using old ones are the same as the "plain ordinary ones".

All Definitive stamps are being barcoded — including Christmas stamps. Definitive stamps are the regular ‘everyday’ stamps featuring the profile of HM The Queen created by the sculptor Arnold Machin. We aren't barcoding special issue stamps — which are printed as a one off to commemorate a person/event and to celebrate the best of the UK’s contribution to the world.

Thank you for the heads up Gordan Bennett.

I usually buy a stash of stamps before the price goes up every year and am not sure I will be able to use them by the time the next deadline comes around.  I will apply to swap them out.

Do the barcoded stamps mean that should letters get lost, they will be able to locate the mail?  If so, it would mean the tracked Royal Mail service is obsolete.

Chances are it's someone you know having a laugh, mates, son, work associates etc  :unknown:

I got a card years back from my mates wife and her mate, plastered in red lipstick kisses and reeked of perfume.

I knew it was a wind up but didn't know who until my mate mentioned that Saturday on a night out about how I might pull as it was Valentines etc then asked if i'd got any cards  :D

No, because I found it before she arrived, she knows I see other people anyway, but not going to rub it in, she did ask if anyone had been this week but my back is fucked, so not in the mood.

To answer the other post, you can stick Ring doorbells where the sun does not shine, bad enough having a spy in the cab in trucks, fuck having one at home.  :scare:

Pleased someone mentioned this as I still have an anorak stash of many stamps handy for posting parcels.

Here's the blurb, I suppose we can wait till end of next month then queue up at the post office.

Non-barcoded stamps will be phased out but will remain usable until 31 January 2023. Customers are encouraged to use their non-barcoded stamps before this date. Alternatively, non-barcoded stamps can be exchanged for the new barcoded version through Royal Mail’s ‘Swap Out’ scheme.

The ‘Swap Out’ scheme will open on 31 March 2022. Forms will be available via a variety of channels, including local Customer Service Points; the Royal Mail website and via our Customer Experience team. Customers will be able to use a Freepost address. Further details will be announced shortly.

They won't be able to track anonymous hand-delivered valentine cards though!

For the past 20 years I've received a Valentines card from the same secret admirer, so I was pretty upset when I didn't get one this year. First my granny dies, and now this.
