I'm going to group Couzens, the bigots and the WhatsApp dead bodies society together as "rogue elements". I am not down playing the seriousness of what they did, but, Cressida Dick is not the 1st Met Commissioner to have not got a hold on rogue elements in the Met. Sadly she will not be the last who fails. The promoting of officers who have been found guilty of bullying, racism, misogyny, homophobia, dating victims of crime and so on shows an organisation, that in the main is a force of good, is consistently let down by elements who have let the power of being a police officer go to their heads. Cressida Dick has been weak or unwilling, call it what you like, to restore public trust in the Met.

Add to this the Met's flawed decision on London's party capital, Number 10, shows Sadiq Khan was right.

The decision to go is the right one of course but a few questions arise for me. It was only a few months ago that Khan/Patel gave her a two year extension to her contract. All these issues were known at that time and nothing really has changed since then. So why was she offered the extra time in the first place. Given this, why has Khan chosen today to put her in a position where she has to resign instead of sacking her? It makes me wonder if he has someone who will be given a "shoe in" straight away to cover the "crisis" who is even more WOKE and malleable to political pressure.

I agree,why are we seeing so many kids stabbing each other still?.In the high street in Southend on sea they regularly have a walk through airport door screening for this.People are busy travelling from London to the beach so it’s at the top by the train station.

I agree, the congestion in London is now beyond a joke, I sometimes average 7mph. There are some major roads in London that has 20mph speed limit, sure there is going to be less fatality at that speed but so is walking. I suppose we can all go on that bus his dad use to drive.

That's correct, so it's interesting to see what aspects of the mayor's "support" if withdrawn would be enough to "force" her to step down?

Or is it the case that after 40 years service (when she could have retired on full pension after 30 years) she's finally had enough of all the political bullshit and having to be personally responsible for the actions and misdeeds of the 30,000 personnel under her command?  I'd guess the latter.

I agree with Jomoore. The politics she (or any commissioner) currently has to deal with stifles any possibility of doing the job properly. Political meddling is what has reduced the Met to a low morale force. Proper policing is , and has been, continually objected to because of political concerns. All the talk about police 'culture' distracts from the fact that their hands are tied, politically. For example, politics not policing is driving situation around the 'Downing St parties'. Recruitment and training are inferior so a lot of the people who become officers satisfy the political rather than policing requirements which of course encourages corruption and misdeeds.  A commissioner who tries to change that will be ousted for 'rocking the boat' and a commissioner who is compliant is at the mercy of the whims of current political masters.

Much as we often have different views Gordon, I think you’ve expressed something important there and I find myself thoroughly agreeing with you. She might be a very nice lady and I’m all for ‘inclusiveness’ and stuff but she doesn’t inspire confidence in the public, and even on the ‘admin’ level, as you pointed out, there have been too many embarrassing failures on her watch.

Sadly that's true.  To think that she replaced Bernard Hogan-Howe, a tough Yorkshireman with a track record of stamping out crime gangs in Merseyside is indicative of Khan's stupidity. (He also replaced the successful male London fire chief with another female failure).  Khan needs to go, but the fact that London is now a third world city means he'll probably stay.

Her lump sum and pension would have been taken when she retired from the police service under national standard terms. The 2 year contract will have been outside of that with a commercial style agreement of payment/severance/pension in place. It may well be the government end up paying her to the end of her contract to go quietly?
