These 2 shops are getting together this month to open a cafe in the Birmingham primark shop.
You can have a shop, sit in the Greggs cafe,I think it’s a clever business idea considering in my town Southend the Greggs/Primark are the busiest outlets.
Primark will also launch clothes with Greggs logos on it,like the orange writing get on things,be on white hoodies.

Who would want to walk round with clothes emblazoned with greggs, and even though their food is nice and fresh But expensive for what it is but then again I don’t even like the sandwiches in supermarkets or garages that sell them,I find them to stale and tasteless.

What is expensive at Greggs?

I get a breakfast roll and a coffee and a doughnut for £4. I can't get that anywhere else in London

Without getting into ping pong about Greggs prices:
Some people don’t have £4 to spend on breke they buy a loaf of bread for 60p/bacon in Iceland.
You can get 4 doughnuts in there in a pack which saves money.
It’s one business making big profits because of this.
Same applies to people buying snobby coffee in the other places to walk around with a logo cup.

I may be wrong but, I think most of their food is far from fresh :timeout: - All the pies, sausage rolls and pasties are frozen and so are the baguettes

I use to work at co op and their doughnuts and pies etc and loaves were all partly cooked then frozen

That's true, delivered frozen then baked, but as are most places including higher end bakeries. When the artisan skill is being delivered on the premises rather than in a large factory the price become very expensive and then suddenly I'm paying near enough 10 pounds for a loaf of bread.

I have some Aldi underpants, trunk style boxers. It says Aldi around the waistband, I think that makes a change from say, CalvinKlein, Armani or whatever. I think there's something about advertising that you are content to wear cheap functional undercrackers that cost £2.50 instead of £20, sort of making a statement that you're comfortable in your own skin and don't need to drape yourself in luxe branding to project an image of wealth, power or success.

The Aldi pants are very good quality responsibly sourced cotton too, it's not like I've made an inferior or compromised choice.

I suspect the Primark x Greggs tie-up is possibly trying to tap into a similar mindset of being an everyman average Joe? Only issue I'd have is the shit Primark quality, dubiously sourced manufacturing and materials and the unhealthy Greggs offering..... there's nothing to brag about there, even ironically.

Offline Blackpool Rock

Greggs pies and pasties etc are cheap shit in terms of quality, just another example of a brand that appears to have gained almost Cult status in the last few years but I have no idea why.

Perhaps it's not over priced compared to some other outlets and you have to bear in mind they have to pay out for wages / rent / rates etc in the high street / city centre etc so while I agree with the poster about buying a loaf for 60p and a pack of bacon etc (which is what i'd do) I guess their overheads are relatively high.

I find all the sandwiches / panini's / baguettes etc are tasteless shit in all of these outlets though and normally priced more expensive than Greggs too, I did actually get a Greggs breakfast baguette a few months ago while visiting somewhere and at least it was tasty to eat.

Costa coffee food is awful, many times i've been away on business and decided to go hungry rather than eat that shite, better to wait another few hours to get home and eat then.

Anyway it doesn't surprise me that Greggs are teaming up with Primark as I believe they have a reputation for being cheap / chavvy / wear once and throw away etc.
Will keep an eye out for chavvy Blackpool slappers walking down the Prom with Greggs logo hoodies eating their pies and pasties, pure class this place

Yeah they are shit but they do the job when needed, Gregg's has jumped to cult status due to middle class and the media co-opting them, now it's cool to like Gregg's in an unironic manner.

People aren’t embarrassed anymore to say they buy food at the time of day supermarkets put the yellow stickers on,same as buying in charity shops.
It’s a way of saying I’ve got money I am not bothered how I dress.

Just as well they're from Aldi, Gordon.   I think you may get a few sniggers from SP's if you stripped off to reveal pants with "Lidl" written upon them.

The prices went up with the status too, and quality dropped along with the range they sell.

When they were just a bakers that sold some take away food and soup, it was not bad at all, reasonably priced and perfectly edible, the one near the Arsenal ground got tried a lot when working there.

Now the range of cakes is very limited, so only go if passing, for the iced apple Danish, nowhere near as good as they were though.

Now that is overpriced , unimaginative food with tiny portions. Paying more than a 5 star hotel breakfast and receiving just 1 croissant. Garbage

Stereotype much? There are plenty of people living in other forms of housing receiving benefits.

I second that. My Lidl is pretty good value, their deluxe range of foods are surprisingly decent. The drawback is their booze range, poor if you're an ale man like myself.

I am an Ale man, and mine has great choice, their own ones, Banks, Shepherd Neame, Fullers,  even Newcy brown, loads more, there is great choice. I would guess at least 50 different in cans and bottles.

You will not find it on the shelves, but near probably on a pallet, big green 500ml bottles of Pilsner, 4.8% and tastes great, I never drink lager, but I drink that on warm days and usually have some in the fridge, 99p a bottle

On topic, I bought some mini sausage rolls for the dog, he only got half, they were far better than Greggs which I would not eat.

Lidl is fairly cheap but you have to watch out as occasionally something isn't a bargain, i've found that some of their stuff is good quality and as you say the Deluxe ranges are pretty good but some of their stuff is shit like their fresh meat

Basically you need to try various things then pick and choose what you like and don't like.

I'm a real ale fan myself and some of their stuff is OK, perhaps not a great range but i've tried some of their own brand Hatherwood ales which are good value and I like them, think 4 x 440ml cans of their Amber ale is only £3.89
