Author Topic: Landlord to a WG?  (Read 1808 times)

Offline Webby581

I have just acquired an investment property flat in an area that could be very attractive to WGs. I know of at least 1 (highly reviewed) in an nearby building.
As an occasional punter it amuses me to think of it being used for such purposes and to imagine what terms i could add into the tenancy agreement about freebies

I am confident that in reality it would just be far more trouble than its worth and WGs generally would rely on cash payments which could get complicated.
So don't worry, i will not be (knowingly) doing it.

BUT it made me wonder whether other punters on here have had any experience / tales of letting property to Service Providers?

There was a creepy cunt on here some time back, asking similar questions to yours

Whats creepy about my question?
I just imagine that having WGs in a property could lead to all sorts of problems for a landlord and that some of them might make interesting anecdotes  :unknown:

Offline char45

Not me personally but I know a couple of guys who have, both said the WGs were very good clients, discreet and wanted to keep the place clean. I think they had agreed some ground rules around working times to avoid it being too obvious to the neighbours. They were legit letting agents as well as doing this so having some cash flowing through the books wasn't a big deal. No idea if they tried to mix business and pleasure.

That was quite a boring anecdote I know!

What's creepy??? this is creepy,  "imagine what terms i could add into the tenancy agreement about freebies",  in fact it's as creepy as fuck and shows us and any escorts reading this what type of person you are.

There's been loads of 'landlords' like you banned from here. If you want to let a property then charge an acceptable rent, if you want to see any escort then pay the going rate.

Do you really think any escort would rent a property from you knowing you were expecting freebies. Apart from anything else it's illegal.

They were legit letting agents

No legit letting agent should do this. As Davie pointed out it is illegal under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

I've often wondered if someone who knowingly lets out a property to a prostitute, knowing that the rent she pays comes from sex work, could be liable to prosecution for living off immoral earnings.

Ask the same question on SAAFE and see what response you get

Been a lot of stories in newspapers about adverts on craiglists for “sex for rent” for vulnerable students who provide company to landlords.

One guy got jailed for it last year

As already pointed out it's illegal and has had recent publicity over the last few years due to vulnerable people being exploited.

Not sure if the law was tightened or whether ads for it were banned either voluntarily or involuntarily just like most newspapers took out the small ads for escorts about 10 years ago.
Mond you that was at the same point the internet and sites like AW were really taking off so wonder how that went  :unknown:

Maximum penalty if found guilty of sex for rent is 7 years and that's not counting anything relating to prostitution.

Just my personal opinion but anyone who expects sex from a tenant as part of the tenancy agreement are scum of the earth.

Indeed the first one External Link/Members Only

Prosecutions are difficult to prove though despite the current law being 'amended' in 2019 External Link/Members Only

Very recently however (thanks to the House of Lords and not the Government) the Law is being changed to make it easier External Link/Members Only

Blimey - I was only interested in finding out other landlord's experiences of having ended up with WG tenants, knowingly or by accident. :unknown:

Sadly, what I included in my preamble as just a joke about 'freebies' has become the focal point here. It was absolutely no more than a poorly-judged jest.
I have no intentions of actually letting to a WG tenant.

Forget I asked.

Sorry mate but that is typical of the way new members backtrack when they don't get the response they were expecting because they have the totally wrong idea about the site.

If it was something you had no intention of doing or indeed find morally reprehensible then why would you "joke" about it?
We're not talking about spiking someone's dinner with laxatives here you're joking about exploiting someone for sexual favours.

On a serious note I have heard stories of landlords struggling to keep tenants after having a WG as a tenant. I suppose that the new legit tenants don't want dodgy geezers turning up at all hours asking if Karen is free for a 1 hour anal pounding

I once saw a WG in Gloucester. She regularly rented a room above a city centre bar/restaurant. Apparently the landlord used to pop in to see her when his Mrs was working in the restaurant for which the WG got discounted room rates.
