Wordle - Daily Word Challenge

There was one quirk about today's word that I had not seen before which nearly caught me out. Once I realised what it was my next guess was the right answer. I won't say what the quirk was for spoiler sake but if you played today I expect you know what I mean.

I think yesterday (might be day before that) I got the last four letters right and had to guess twice for first letter as could have been anything.

I used @watts plan, put x along with you correct place letters so you have something to look at, as in RAxxE.

I do something very similar but today I only had the second letter in the right place after my fourth attempt so wasn't much help! I find having the RAxxE written down and looking at the keyboard on the website with greyed out letters really helps. It is a delight when you put in a guess and see the letters turn green one by one!

Got it in 3 today to keep my 11 day streak up

3 guesses - 6
4 guesses - 2
5 guesses - 4

Doubt I'll ever get a 1 guess or 2 as would be pure luck.

3 seems to be getting 1 letter yellow on first try and then maybe 1 or 2 green on second for me. Then powers of deduction (and greyskull!)

This clue would have helped me had I seen it. I got it in 5. Had the first 4 letters correct after guess 3 and narrowed the solution down to 2 possible words. I thought nah it couldn't be what turned out to be the right answer but got it after 5.

Guess 1: 0 letters in correct place / 0 letters in incorrect place (boo)
Guess 2: 0 / 1 (uh oh)
Guess 3: 4 / 0 (lucky there, thought of a word with popular letters I hadn't used. When I saw the first 4 letters go green I thought I had plucked the right answer out of nowhere which would have been amazing)
Guess 4: 4 / 0
Guess 5: Correct answer

Kinda defeats the point if clues posted on here though... my morning routine is having a shit whist checking UKP for updates and then playing Wordle... Might have to make Wordle the priority in future

4 attempts today despite getting 3 correct letters in the right place on my first guess.
Was reluctant to try the word it eventually turned out to be thinking it wouldn't be that & it would be a wasted attempt.
Very UKP like solution, maybe the creator is a member

I had the last 4 letters from my rather lucky 2nd go.

That left me with three possible words it could be - a 33% chance of getting it right on my next go.

I lucked out with first word but got it right with the next one, ie my 4th attempt.

I'm finding that doing it sat on the crapper seems to focus my thinking. That's probably TMI but it's a tactic I thought worth sharing.

I got the first 4 letters on guess 2 today and then kicked myself for not guessing the word correctly on that go. Quite an apt one today.

That's the first one where my starter of 'steal' didn't bring up any letters.  Got me worried, but my next word had the first three letters in the right place, so easy to solve from there.

Got in 4. Got a good strategy going now I think. Got 2 good starter words that cover all vowels and common consonants. I tend to use them as my first two guesses each time unless I got a couple of greens on my first guess.

Guess 1: 0 letters in correct place / 1 in incorrect place
Guess 2: 0 / 2
Guess 3: 2 / 1
Guess 4: Correct answer

6. Really struggled. Had two greens after 2nd go but 3rd and 4th goes got me nowhere. BUT, trick is to realise even the attempts that get you "nowhere" at least enable you to discount those letters.
By the time you get to 5th go there are only 9ish letters left, most of which will be your Js, Zs, Qs etc

One thing... Every day I seem to narrow it down to two possible words but I never get it right on the next go. Y'know, based on what's left it can only be Sweep or Sleep. I opt for the former and it turns out to be the latter - really annoying, particularly given I haven't got lucky once with a 50/50 yet

Really quick today compared to previous days, less than a minute,

Guess 1     nothing at all

guess 2  one in right place one in wrong

guess 3  all green


I thought it was very obvious from the letters I had discarded that it could be nothing else.  I have been using RAISE first but did not today and did better than I have done since I started using Raise.

I did read an article on strategy and apparently ADIEU is a popular first word as it has 4 vowels. My starter word has 2 vowels and 3 popular consonants. My second word has the three remaining vowels. I sometimes don't use my standard second word depending on the hits I get on the first.

Got it in 2 today, thought i'd got it in 1 with my first guess, got the first 4 letters in the correct places, was gutted when i saw the last letter was grey, after that it could only be one word so it was obvious what the last letter would be.

Was struggling  with today's,  so paused and made a coffee.  Suddenly  like a bolt from the blue a possible word came to me. Tried it and  it was right! Phew, attempt #4.

Toughest one yet today. 4th attempt had the 1st 3 letters and felt sure it could only be one word. Wrong word for 5th guess. Just managed it on last guess. Phew!

5 today, tough one, took 4 attempts to get 1 green and 2 brown, 1 brown turned up in 3 wrong places, from there it could only be one word. Very slow today, took a lot of thinking about.

Yep, struggled today, took me 4, had used up all the vowels bar one on the first 3 attempts.

5 attempts. The website came up in a team meeting today and my colleague who I know is good at crosswords and also an all round general brain box said it was tough. I spent ages on it today even though I'm busy with work so guess I am a bit addicted. Today is my 10 day streak.

So weird. Found it straightforward today and got it in 3 despite it being a more "out there" word. The Mrs is in a right state.... she's nowhere after 3 goes and has put it down to re-visit later. She's probably gonna cheat isn't she!?

I think its just luck of draw which words you open with to be honest, there's no perfect choice really. Main thing is to concentrate and don't make any brainfart errors misplacing or reusing a letter you have previously eliminated.

Something I've found is if a standard opening word like RAISE or ABIDE doesnt return any letter to go completely left field and try YACHT or something.

I generally tend to keep Y and Zs to the end (like most people I'd guess) but with how popular the game is going it feels like less common words are being used.

A risky Y or J can be worth it sooner rather then later I'm finding. I've not read any strategies or anything online but friends are suggesting AUDIO is the best starting word for the 4 vowels but I disagree as they are easier to guess when not actually used at all and youre looking at a blank space (each to their own I guess!)
