Hi, hoping this is the right place for this.

I have an error message when I attempt to send a personal message on here. Anyone know why or what I can do? Thanks

You are not allowed to send personal messages.
You haven't got PM privileges so you can't send them.

Post what you want to say on the forum.

Okay. Thanks for the clarity.

I had been able to send PM's so I just wondered what had changed?

How do you get PM privileges?

That information is not given out.

Offline joe_lloyd99

Okay. Is this a forum wide thing or specific to myself?

Thanks

Forum wide, it's to discourage information being passed between a certain few instead of being posted for the benefit of all.

Offline joe_lloyd99

Okay. Thank you for clearing that up.

Pm's have been disabled while we decide on a new criteria for having the privilege to send a pm  :hi:

Offline Stevelondon

Logged on this evening and the site is telling me I cannot send PM's

Is this a site error or has the facility been removed for me only.

I was thinking along the lines of perhaps I have sent/received too many...maybe.

Thank you Davie....I understand whats happening now.

Pm's have been disabled while we decide on a new criteria for having the privilege to send a pm  :hi:

I had noticed some references in threads to being fed up with leeches and the swapping of intel etc.

The vast majority of messages I got were asking about particular SPs' boundaries (one SP in particular :sarcastic:) or if certain girls still worked at a certain shop etc.  Or if a certain WG's chebs were bigger than another one's...

I got the odd 'tip' from people who didn't post that much but felt they'd benefited from my intel.

Morning all
I logged in this morning to find out I can no longer send PM'S - Anyone know why this is so ???

Logged in earlier today to see if a message I sent yesterday had been read? I get a notification in a blue heading 'an error has occurred'. Under it the message' you are not allowed to send personal messages' So can read my received messages, but can't respond to them. Never had this issue before up till today. Only me or anyone else?

May I say that I very much hope that decisions here will be made with all despatch.  The day before this ban was imposed I received a message from a fellow punter - a friend of mine- describing his return to normality after a heart attack as likely to take longer than both he and I had hoped and I really wanted to be able to send him an encouraging message. Presently I can't do this and my friend may wonder why he hasn't heard back from myself as normally I respond promptly.
The PM facility is a very useful one. The " P" must imply both Personal and Private.

If some members are bringing the system into disrepute surely complaints can be made and action taken upon the matters complained of.

If he is a friend do you not have other contact details, I have phone numbers and various other contact details of my friends.   :unknown:

Failing that if you only know him from here when he logs in to see if you have responded he will see the current situation.

Just noticed this when I tried to PM a fellow member.
Any info available on how long this might be disabled../ withdrawn../not functioning..? :hi:

Thanks for the clarification above- only now read.
The move makes sense.
As would a purge on inactive accounts- affectionately known as leeches by many members.
Keep up the good work lads.  :hi:

Well I'm buggered if I've seen it until this mention.

I wondered why I've not been receiving any PMs for a little while.

Does that mean us forum helpers aren't able to PM anyone to inform them we've moved a post to another area of the forum for example, like we're supposed to do?

Helpers cannot send PM’s but please don’t stop assisting with keeping the Forum in good order.

If a member cannot see a post they have made they can always check the Show Posts link on their Profile.

I'm posting this here as well as reporting it on the ukpunting board. Up till yesterday had no problems sending messages & viewing received messages. But on logging in yesterday and clicking on a message sent Thursday to see been read, got a box with a blue top saying "an error has occurred". In the box was the message "you are not allowed to send personal messages". I was hoping a moderator or admin might have seen this post on the ukpunting board where I posted it in the section for reporting issues with this site? However, it doesn't seem to be there? So if any moderator or admin sees it here, can you please help? Also, when I click on 'helpers' get the same message box.

Offline NelsonH

Been turned OFF mate.  There's at least one other thread that explains all.

Offline tony22

I rarely send messages, but when I do, it's to talk about a shared interest or arrangement. I guess it could be abused but personally 99% of my communication is on the threads. Hope it comes back or maybe gets linked to a criteria of activity such as reviews. Thank you.

Pm is back now
The criteria for getting the ability to send a pm has changed slightly
So if you had the ability before but do not now it's because you don't meet the new eligibility criteria
This is disclosed for obvious reasons

Offline Justjim1987

I've just noticed, mine says I can still reply to people I've spoken with before but not anyone new.

Act 1, Scene 1, Hamlet: "For this relief much thanks"
Still don't quite understand the "obvious reasons" but I am very happy that PM utility has been restored unto me.

Why do this via PM and not on the open forum.

Precisely.

The main point and ethos of UKP is to share info and experiences, good or bad, for the benefit of the whole forum.

This is how cliques are formed by misusing a PM facility for a chosen few.

Would it not be better to set up rules for pm, on what get shared via pm, and what must be shared on forum

That's exactly why PMs were stopped, to stop people like you sharing information privately, that isn't the way the site works.

Information is supposed to be shared for the benefit of all, not for you and your mates.

I have great difficulty understanding this.  If private messages from one member to another are not shared 'for the benefit of all' then it must follow that PMs are forbidden if not posted broadly rather than via the PM system in which case ........
The only conclusion I can reach is that the suspension of the PM system is inevitable and the board will be flooded with correspondence of bugger all interest to the majority.

Did you actually read the post I responded to.    :unknown:

Now back. Many thanks to all concerned for the PM facility return. Was in conversation with another member re some wg's giving good service.

Information regarding WGs providing good service is something that would be of interest to all, not something that should be kept between members by PM.

Unless of course you can explain how posting information about an escort giving good service would not be of interest to other punters in the area. If you can show that then it makes reviews redundant.
