Author Topic: Dangers of not having a Punting phone ?  (Read 14928 times)

Online CoolTiger

I occasionally get texts from the mobile provider saying "Top up by x and get free data" or some other marketing message.

UPDATE:  As I'm sitting here typing that my punting phone springs into life...

"Your 500Mb UK internet for a month has now expired..."

If punting phone is bought from Carphone Warehouse, avoid having to give your address. But you may still get texts now and then from them, for offers, upgrades, etc.

Even punting phones aren't infallible. I'm single so don't have the problem of a nosey OH but today I called a WG that I'd previously seen. No answer to the call so I went for plan B (a very good plan B as well). Later, on the way home, my phone bleeps to indicate a text received. Text reads " sorry hun, busy all day, call again soon xxx". Moral of the story is turn off, or at least turn the volume off, on your punting phone because you could walk through the door, give your Mrs a little kiss on the cheek, and your secret punting phone suddenly rings or bleeps in your pocket - game over.

The whole idea of a punting phone is that it is only used when punting. At all other times it is switched off and stashed away. Carrying a punting phone, switched on and at full volume along with your main phone makes a nonsense of the whole concept.

I have warned him a few times,he even calls them when abroad, just lucky that no one checks the phone bills!

But if his costs rise well above other people's then they may well take a close look - then he's fucked.

Offline Loki

I just use my normal phone.

I don't have anyone to hide from, and never had a text, call or anything else from a WG.

It's not just about the OH. Even if you are single and have nothing to hide, if you end up using your work number to call WGs, there is a possibility of that number being exposed in the future by an irate WG.

A prospective customer then googling your mobile number... as well as finding it in the plumbing, or lawyer section, etc. will also see alink to an escort forum, about being a "timewaster", or asking for BB, etc. Would you want this happening to you?????

Thanks matey
A bit off thread but thought it worth a mention is what happens when an OH finds out that their geezer likes hookers.  Seen this happen to a mate of a mate.  The OH tells absolutely all their friends / mums at the school [if kids].  Just to make you look a cunt.  And the same would apply to future OH's too.  It gets worse as assuming a termination of relationship then they are bound to tell any new girlfriend exactly why you split up.  And that will go down like a lead balloon.  And create lots of suspicion about your behaviour / activities & put a significant damper on future punting prospects !  Nokia tastic is the way to go - difficult to fuck up with these basic mobiles

I think that fits in to the bucket of why I've never met anybody who has ever been dumped or whose fault the breakup was. The simple way of explaining the above scenario would be the ex was on the game to fund her online gambling.

Presume your mate is called Terry Fuckwitt - he might as well be
When he makes a spectacular fuck-up @ work [& judging by his antics with his work mobile this is a dead-cert] & his employer wants to sack him for XYZ reason then they could have the drains up if they are motivated to avoid a pay off.  Paying a PI to go thru phone bills won't cost them that much in comparison to potential savings. He's hardly going to be able to dispute using his company mobile to procure hookers.  It wouldn't be hard - starting with calls later in the evening / early hours  If i was his boss i'd fire him for being a bell-end, for not using a different mobile.  Shows a capacity for being a liability

One of my mates once used my mobile coz he had no reception where we were at the time.  I asked for the phone & he said he was expecting a call back in the next 1/2hr. As it was already like 1am then i went fucking mental.  I told him to go outside & call the agency & give them a different number saying like his had run out of charge. And if i had any shit from it then i would dob him in without even thinking twice about it.  Cunt

Coming back to your mate - imagine how he would explain:  1/ loss of his job to OH & 2/ why he's looking for a job to a new potential employer

Best buy would be a second hand phone bought for cash as it would be registered to the first owner if it was on a contract leaving them as the owner not you . A sim from poundland etc and always cash for top ups . Find free wifi and set up a new email for punting from and always use free wifi or the allowance you get from your service provider . Stay safe from scammers . Q

2/ why he's looking for a job to a new potential employer

Just make up some bull shit.  Job hunting is completely normal even when you're in a job.  Your ex employer is reluctant enough to give you a bad reference about your sloppy hand writing that they can get sued over let alone say you got fired for calling hookers.  Even then you could just say it was a wrong number if a one off.

No need. Just buy a £10 phone from Tesco (Nokia 100) - you don't need any i.d., and don't even need to go through a cashier - you can buy it through self-service. Likewise, you can get a SIM for £1 from most supermarkets in the same way. Don't make it complicated.

Second hand phones may indeed be registered to the owner... who may have reported it as stolen.  Not a good idea to flag yourself up as receiving stolen goods: and while the police are looking into that, they will no doubt want to know who you've been corresponding with on the phone - see if there's any known drug dealers or human traffickers in there on the basis that people who deal with criminals are more likely to be involved in criminal activities themselves.

I havent gone into it with him in so much detail but agree entirely and have told him a few times i think he is nuts.He must have called half of poland when he was there the other week

Not happy my details could be plastered over Ugly Mugs if a misunderstanding was to occur. Good reason to get a punting phone. You will not get an opportunity for redress !

I was again wondering about this the other day.... and although I don't use a different phone, I can see the point of it...

but how do you all be to the punts? do you have a punting car? or always take public transport? or just use your normal/family/work car?

what about clothes? do you have specific punting clothes?

Offline JV547845

Funny you should mention that.  No punting clothes or car but I do try to park close but where they can't see my number plate and try not to wear anything that's memorable and could get me recognised in future.

For those with an Oyster card, ditch it & purchase a travel card with cash.

I did this recently to get a 2nd punting phone and was very surprised at the lack of ID required, considering their potential use by terrorists.
I went to an Argos in a town a long way from home and was all prepared with a false name and address. No questions asked, paid cash, haven't registered my details and always top up with vouchers. Job done.

Or have a spare un registered oyster card if your paranoid about the missus getting hold of your oyster card and trying to look up where you have been

well after a certain couple of threads on here recently, I'm not the proud owner of a £10 Samsung phone, plus £10 top up.

all paid with cash, no nectar card either... well off the grid...

this will be the punting phone from now on....

I reckon if you got a ziplock poly bag, put your phone in it (minus the sim) and hid it in some bushes it would likely be ok and likely still there months later. If it did occasionally go walkies then £15 for a new one. Don't have to be your bushes so awkward questions.
Hehe, that's so "james bond" - I might try it

My punting sim stays in a 3g dongle - hiding in plain sight,
and gets swapped into my main phone pre punt.
