Picking up on ‘security’ aspects mentioned in a “
image hidden” thread…
DuckDuckGo is a common alternative browser “that doesn’t track you”. This is probably true in the main sense — searches are scrambled before being passed to Google. (By comparison, I only need to type “uk” into a logged-in-to-Google browser for it to immediately fill the search with
www.ukpunting.com. Signing out of Google will just mean they keep bugging you until you sign back in.)
Yet typing UKP into DuckDuckGo still gives me a list of search results that mostly include UKPunting.
If I go onto Dolphin browser, even if I switch off ‘safe search’, it gives me search results of international companies called UKP that are clearly bigger than ukpunting. Not a UKPunting search results in sight!
Same for StartPage browser (which just opens in the default browser of the device). Same for Brave.
Firefox defaulted to Google but that’s due to settings.
However Chrome defaulted to a Google search but didn’t list UKPunting in the search results. Probably as I haven’t used it fir a while.
Does this mean that DuckDuckGo isn’t quite so secure? It seems to be defaulting to my Google search history even if the search itself is hidden from Google.
