Anyone fancy buying a new car from next year they will all be fitted with speed limiters however you can turn them off at the moment but how long until big brother make it so you can't  :unknown:

I did actually used to have a car with a speed limiter but it didn't kick in until 155MPH, still fucking annoying though  ;)

I can see this leading to an increase in overtaking accidents.

Ive a 4 year old car now, next will be a pre-EU fingers in the pie model as it will be my last car.
All that spiel about reducing insurance premiums... did happen during lockdown.  It’s a pitch to get public on board.

reduced premiums ??

able to turn it off ??

lets put 2 and 2 together and voila - another excuse not to pay out if in an accident with the limiter off - even if it didn't contribute

Used to drive 17 seat minibuses in a previous job. They had speed limiters on them, limited to 62mph. A right pain if you were on dual carriageway/motorway and trying to overtake a lorry doing 58 mph up hill.

Nothing new, they have had them for a good few years, only you have to find it in the menu and set it, optional to turn on and therefore the insurance companies cannot insist it is on, but if it becomes optional to turn off then insurance companies will have another excuse not to pay out.

I can see there being a sudden surge in demand for new cars just before this comes in, then a huge drop in the new car market afterwards. As a modern car can las 15 years or more, it's going to be a long time IMO before this has any effect on accident statistics.

It will not have any effect on accident statistics, only less cars or less miles travelled will do that, the cars will still have the same donkeys driving them who will commit to an over take and run out of speed, or switch them off and drive the same and they will still sit in the middle lane oblivious to those around them  :D

Gets worse on four lane motorways. Lane 3 is where you find them all. The one I use operates like two dual carriageways side by side. Lanes 1 & 2 for those who understand lane discipline, lane 3 for those who haven't got a fucking clue and lane 4 for audi/bmw/merc drivers nose to tail in the race to 'get ahead'.....

Slower speeds and speed cameras play a big part in this, they set the cruise control @ 65 mph and think they have every right to be in any lane, then doze off staring straight ahead oblivious to faster moving traffic.

The most dangerous ones are listening to the sat nav, they hear " keep right at next junction" the cue to get as far right as possible without thought or logic.

Loads do not drive, they sit there holding a steering wheel waiting for the next instruction while dozing in a comfortable seat causing frustration to others.

Like being with a hot woman whose idea of safe sex is wearing a chastity belt.

Anyone else remember driving an American hire car with a beautifully powerful engine only to wonder what the fuck was wrong with it??

Yep. Think the horses had been subbed for 3 legged donkeys.

I remember going into the rental and think I’m treating myself to the biggest fastest baddest bad-ass American motor only to find it was — like 3 legged donkeys. It would rev impressively and not go any faster. What a fucking waste! Land of the free-to-do-what-you’re-told.
